The name of the township (Scrubgrass) should be enough to give you an idea as to what it was like to live there...laugh. Just teasing, but if the whole township was scrubgrass it would not be a pretty place. What I have seen of Richland Twp and Emlenton, sitting along the Allegheny River it is lovely with so many trees and I bet really pretty in the fall when the leaves turn. I had heard from one woman that has visited Venango Co. and asked...why on earth did my people move here? I have record of about 4 generations that lived there, but my grandfather and my dad and his brothers were Ritchey's and were in the business of drilling oil wells and eventually moved over into Ohio in the late 1890's and drilled what they called wild cat wells. Then in 1923 there was an oil boom in Huntington Beach, CA and they and their families all moved out west here to Huntington Beach, Ca. Of course they have all passed on, but I have a lot of memories of hearing the stories they told about their lives in PA, OH and Ca. Thank you for reading this.
