Phipps, last surviving veteran of the Civil War died at his home in Irwin township, Venango county, Monday. Had he lived until December he would have been 92. The last surviving member of the John and Barbara Huffman Phipps family, he served in the Fourth Pennsylvania cavalry during the war and lived to see the fifth generation born to his family.
