Smith, 78, of Shippenville, who owned Smith's Garage in Cranberry for many years, died at 8:30 p.m. yesterday at Franklin Hospital. A native of Whitehall, he was born Oct. 10, 1899 and was a son of Samuel C. and Minnie Levy Smith. He spent most of his life in the Rockland and Cranberry areas, attending Rockland school. First employed by Franklin Steel Co., he later worked for Chicago Pneumatic Tool. In 1945, he started Smith's Garage in Cranberry which he operated for a number of years prior to retiring. In 1975, he sold the garage business. He was married to the former Theodora Stewart on June 21, 1924, and she died July 11, 1962. He married Mildred Hogue on June 8, 1963, and she survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Grant A. (Marjorie) Hanst, Mrs. Robert L. (June) Hogue, and Mrs. Russel L, (Ruth) Rinker; two sons, James D. Smith and Samuel F. Smith. Also survivng are a brother, Fred M. Smith of Franklin, two sisters, Ethel Smith, Titusville, and Mrs. Carl (Anna) Switzer of Bradford; 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Four brothers, Norman, Charles, Lawrence, and Kenneth Smith, died previously, as did two sisters, Mrs. Stances (Luella) DeLong and Mrs. Harvey (Hazel) DeLong. The Rev. Paul L. Zook, pastor of Victory Heights United Brethren Church will officiate at the 1:30 P.M. Wednesday funeral service at Huff Chapel. Internment will be in the Brandon Cemetery.
