I have obtained a copy of Letitia (Anderson) Singleton's widow's application for a pension based on John Singleton's military service during the War of 1812. Letitia, as Letticia Singleton and as a resident of Franklin, Venango County, PA, filed a widow's pension application (R09752) on 31 December 1872 based on her husband's (John Singleton) service in the War of 1812. She further stated that John enlisted in Pittsburgh, PA and served in Captain Lithco's company, Col. Purvine's regiment from the end of August 1812 through the end of December 1812. (Please note that other records state that he served as a private in the 2nd Regiment of the Pennsylvania Militia commanded by Colonel Purviance.) She also stated that she and John were married on 14 February 1814 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and that he later died at Franklin, Venango County, PA, on 2 May 1859. Letitia (Anderson) Singleton's pension application was later rejected on 5 December 1873, but her pension file provides no reason for the rejection. The rejection was most likely due to her death that occurred on 7 April 1873. Roger N.
