Archie Donaldson, 89, of Sarasota, Fla., a former Emlenton RD1 farmer and businessman, died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 25, 1981, in Sarasota. He was born July 4, 1892 in Nickleville, the son of John H. and Hannah Jane Nickle Donaldson. He married the former Edna Shields July 15, 1914. She preceded him in death October 29, 1981. Mr. and Mrs. Donaldson lived in Emlenton until 1961 when they moved to Sarasota. They were members of the United Presbyterian Church in Sarasota. Mr. Donaldson was well known in this area for the potato farm he operated at his Emlenton RD 1 address, and also for the farm equipment and machinery he sold at that location. He later became involved in the farm machinery and sales business, moved his Donaldson Farm Machinery Company offices to River Avenue in Emlenton, and in 1953 added an automobile sales franchise to his business. He retired in 1957 and sold the business, now known as Donaldson Motors, to his son, Robert Donaldson of Emlenton. Mr. Donaldson was a member of the Allegheny Valley Lodge F and the AM of Emlenton, the Oil City Lodge of Perfection, New Castle Consistory and the Zem Zem Shrine of Erie. He was also a member of the IOOF Lodge of Oil City and the Richland Grange. A former director of the Central Electric Company and the Production Credit Association of Meadville, Mr. Donaldson was also past president of the Pennsylvania Potato Growers Association. He is survived by three sons, Carl of Florida, Robert of Emlenton and Kenneth of Knoxville, Tenn.; several grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by brothers Ernest, Homer and Austin and by sisters Sylvia, Nellie, Ethel and Emma. Friends will be received at the Robert F. Criswell Funeral Home in Emlenton Saturday and Sunday, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home, with Rev. Thomas Prosser, pastor of the Edenburg United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Emlenton Cemetery.
