Surnames: Pyle/Arbuckle/Curry/Shepherd/Annable/Sikes/McDowell/Sanford Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/0dB.2ACI/4146 Message Board Post: Printed in Venango Citizens Press 24 Mar 1910 Well Known Citizens Of The County Robert Pyle - Sandycreek Township The subject of this sketch was born in Lycoming ,Pa.,2 July 1834.His parents A.J. and Eliza Pyle were among the first settlers of Mercer County where Robert resided until his marriage to Miss Marie E.Annable of Mercer County,the nuptials being celebrated 4 Oct 1855 when accompanied by his young wife,he moved to Sandycreek township in the Bully Hill Oil District.Mastering the carpenter trade when a young man,Mr.Pyle followed his vocation until the opening up of the Bully Hill field in which he is engaged at the present time.In speaking of the wonderful progress made in all channels especially in the way of travel.Mr.Pyle related of the ocean trip made by his wife from England to America when she was 16 years of age,she being on the water fifty-six days. The Pyle home has been blessed with eight children,as follows,Mrs.Mary Smiley and Mrs.Phoebe Dodds of Franklin,Mrs.Hattie Boals,William,John,Frank,Harry and Mrs.Althea McConnell of Bully Hill. Mr.and Mrs.Pyle who are held in the highest esteem by a wide circle of friends,are among the very few who have rounded out their fifty-fifty year of wedded life and at the present time enjoy the blessings of good health.Mr.Pyle has still living three sisters and one brother,Mrs.Martha McConnell of Volant,Lawrence County,Mrs.Emily Smith of Los Angeles,California,Mrs.Phoebe Hudson of New Brighton and Frank of Denver,Colo.The worthy couple have twenty-seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
