Like Lodisa, the name of Sylvester's father appears to be a mystery of sorts. Sylvester Brandon was the son of Catherine Steffee and as family tradition has it his father's name was Wesley Brandon. Sylvester was raised in the household of his grandparents Adam and Sarah (Stroup) Steffee in Rockland Tp., Venango Co. He even went by the Steffee name until he was grown. There is no record to date, that I am aware of, of a Wesley Brandon anywhere in the Cranberry/Rockland Tp. Brandons. By the way, Sylvester was a Civil War vet--a sergeant in 64th Regt., 4th Cavalry, Co. L. As far as the James Brandon you mentioned, James was a very common name among that Brandon family so I don't know which one that is, based on what information I have available to me.
