Surnames: FRYS HOGAN CRUM Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0dB.2ACI/4086 Message Board Post: Seeking info on FRYS family/families known to have lived in Oil City from at least 1899 (John or Jan/Yan) and joined by brothers Joseph (Josef) and Nicholas (Mikola) in 1905/06. Ellis Island records list them as "Ruthenians" from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, specifically from Wroblik (Voroblyk) in Galicia (present-day Wroblik, SE Poland). They were probably Eastern-rite catholics ("Byzantine-rite" or "Greek" catholics). Nicholas Frys eventually moved to St. Paul, Minnesota and married Catherine Hogan there ca. 1920. He was my uncle, died in Minneapolis in 1970. I am just starting my FRYS research, hence have no data to share beyond the above.
