Joshua is the son of James Downing Jr. and Nancy Nelies. On Sept. 23, 1850 Joshua married Amelia Ellen Myers. Amelia Ellen Myers b: Sept. 23, 1832 Rockland Twp., Venango Cty., Pa. d: Oct. 1, 1909 in Oil City, Venango cty., Pa. Amelia is the daughter of John Myers and Mary Hahn. Both Joshua and Amelia are buried in Grove Hill Cemetery, Oil City, Pa. Joshua and Amelia were the parents of 6 children: 1.) John b: Abt. 1851 2.) James b: Abt. 1853 3.) Willis C. b: 1855 4.)
