On the Tracy side, the oldest known ancestor is Hile (Heil,Hyle)Tracy that moved to Venango County from New York before 1850. At least one of his sons and two daughters migrated to Venango County before their father. I am descended from Hile Tracy's grandson, James Hile Tracy. On the McClintock side, the oldest known ancestor in Venango County was Hugh (married to Rachel Hardy). I am descended from their grandson Andrew Jackson McClintock. Many of my ancestors were involved in the oil industry, and my particular line moved west to work in the oil fields in California between about 1905 and 1909, but still stayed in close contact and visited with the family from Pennsylvania. I've been going through and organizing all of the material I inherited from my Tracy/McClintock related family and would like to share pictures and other information with anyone related to this family. I have quite a bit of material pertaining to their days in Venango County. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I now have additional information on the Cornelius family. On the Carters I only have Louis's parents as John Werley (sp?) Carter and Sarah A. Carter from the 1870 and 1880 Census. Do you have the name of Alice's second husband? I show Jess Lombard but nothing more and no date of death/place of death for Alice. I would be happy to share. As an aside, Alice and Louis - on the 1910 Census - show they had had 6 children, only 5 living at that time. So, they actually had 9 children. My ancestor, Joseph Smeltzer ca1795PA - 1866PA and his wife Hannah Green, both residing in Bedford Co for every other federal census from 1820, was in Crawford Co for one census only: 1830 census -- Woodcock Twp, Crawford Co, PA p 42: Joseph Smilcer m ->5 2, 10-15 2, 30-40 1; f 5-10 1, 10-15 1, 20-30 1 His son (and my ancestor) Joseph was born in Crawford Co in Dec 1827, but they were all back in Bedford county for the 1840 census. I found another man there in 1830 -- John Smeltzer p 78 in Vernon Twp, who died shortly after that census. I have often wondered if for some reason, John Smeltzer was the reason that my Joseph went to Crawford Co. Could John and his wife have been Joseph's parents? Could John have been an older brother? These Bedford Co Smeltzers had 'itchy feet' as a distant cousin termed it, so maybe he was just there on a whim? Thanks, Ellen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi Linda, Can you access Footnotes.com? In the area under Pennsylvania Archives, if you do a search for Robert Crawford, you will find that he made an application for pay from the U.S. Government, at age 91, and to the state of PA, earlier, because of his Revolutionary War Service. He made the application evidently because his land was poor. Hope this helps. I think the PA Archives are free.
