I got the information from the secretary when I was living in Pittsburgh. It was probably the mid 90's. I called from my home and she did some lookups for me and sent me the information for baptisms and marriages. I think she has since retired, her name was Mrs. Hynes. My great great grandmother was a Hynes. She also sent the names over to St. Stephens and the secretary there sent me the information for my grandmother and her brother who were baptised there after they moved or that church was built. As for the cemetery information she had me call the day that the cemetery person was in and I got the locations from her. Some of my ancestors were buried in St. Joseph's and some in Calvary. One who was buried in Calvary I was surprised she wasn't buried in St. Joseph because she died in 1919. She is buried in the first row at Calvary. Two of my grandmother's 1st cousins' sons are priests in the Erie Diocese. One is retired and living at St. Stephens and the other is a pastor of! a pari sh outside of Oil City. Good luck, maybe I just called on a good day, or people were nicer then. I know there is a church in Altoona that charges $20 for every individual lookup. It is the Cathedral there now and was the original church in the area, they just don't want to be bothered with the paperwork. Also, I think they just don't have the manpower to do it. $20 a person really makes you think about who you want information on. The cemetery in Altoona has always been nice when I have called and done lookups while I waited on the phone. There is no real office at St. Joseph's in Oil City, so you have to get the information from the person who keep the records at the church. If she was Catholic try St. Joseph's Church rectory in Oil City, they have all of the records for St. Joseph's cemetery and Calvary. Who supplied the information to you at S. Joseph's Church? I was there in person and was refused information concerning my ggrandparents who are buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery without a monument. That was probably 20 years ago though and if they are now more obliging I would like to try again. Thanks, Carol-Jeanne!!! This helps even more than I had hoped!! I was really just hoping for possibly a previous gen of Hoovers that might be useful eventually........ But it looks like you have the listings for the George and Frances that were our primary targets, and not only have provided death years and a birth year for Frances, but may have helped with a census mystery as well! They have been incredibly hard to find! I suspect she may have gone by Emma instead of Frances. George and Emma I have seen...... Sounds like I will need to have her get the book soon. It sounds like the general area her Hoovers were in earlier. But for tonight, it has been a breakthrough moment! Thanks so much!! Linda S. William and Sarah had ten children by this marriage of which only nine are known at this time. He and Sarah were divorced 5 February 1830 following which he was married secondly to Jane (Davis) Whitman, date and location unknown, but obviously prior to May 1835 when he drowned. I am also aware of the argument that William Sr. must have had more than the six children noted in his will as there seemingly were several possibles noted in early census reports. BUT...as William Sr. was so meticulous in specifying that his son, Samuel, was dead by the time he had written his will in 1825, and more importantly, indicated that Samuel's children were to inherit their father's share, several Cousins researchers maintain that if there were earlier children...they had died by the time of his will! I have not had any primary or direct evidence of an "Isaac" being a descendant of William Cousins Sr. of Venango County, PA. An Isaac did not share in the William's property as did Samuel, William and Thomas...brothers, of course, and Elizabeth, Nancy and Sarah...sisters. All of these siblings had property rights which were transferred to John Hawthorn over a number of years ending in the 1860s. Lastly, I can send you a document that I prepared some months ago. I have had to revise it a bit since we have determined that the Elizabeth Cousins of Ohio that some have mentioned as a first wife, was in fact wife to another person, first to John Wickam and second to a Cousins from South Carolina. Would need your email address to do so...mine is rnwhiting1313@yahoo.com As there were early references to several Cousins in and about the Pittburgh area including William, I have always wondered if they were the missing parents. We have others in Venango County that are not part of the William family...and it is confusing! Thanks. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
