    3. Thanks to everyone so much for all the information. I want to especially thank the person who replied off list, having located the marriage in a Franklin library copy of the courthouse index of marriages. They were listed as Isaac Kominsky and Sarah Silberstein, and married on 1908, which is when the family kept saying they were married. We will be contacting the registrar to order a copy as we want to see what Isaac's mother's maiden name was. And I will be searching harder for their 1910 census entry in Oil City.

    2. Hello, We just returned from visiting our children in Corry, Erie Co, PA. While riding over a few back roads just north of Corry, we passed a Jewish cemetery. Perhaps that is an indication that there is/was a synagogue in Corry that might have records? Good luck with your search, I hope this helps at least a little. 3. Hey, I found them in 1920, although that doesn't solve the marriage question. They are listed in Detroit in 1920 as Sarah and Issac Comiski. Soundex would never turn that up! The rest of the people in the household are relatives as well, Sarah's sister Jennie and Hyman Schwartz mistranscribed. I will try the synagogue later today. And maybe we should call Venango County back as well, if the name was spelled starting with a C in the marriage license. 3. No, but it's on my list of things to do. I'm a bit skeptical as Jewish organizations don't keep the kind of historical records in this country that churches do. But, I could be pleasantly surprised. I still would like to know where else they might have gotten a civil marriage certificate, if it wasn't Venango. 3. Does anyone have suggestions where we might find records of a Jewish marriage that was supposed to have taken place in 1908 in Oil City? Venango County has no record of the marriage of Isaac Kaminsky to Sarah Silverstein. Where else might Jews have gotten married at that time? Sarah was supposed to be the mikveh lady. Our webpage with our Kaminsky family's genealogy is at: http://freepages.family.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~thecohens/kaminsky.html Is there a Jewish Genealogical Society where we could find out more about Jews in Oil City at that time? Google keeps bringing up just Pittsburgh and Philadelphia Society's and I don't know whether they would include Oil City Jewish records. We have tried to find both Isaac and Sarah on passenger lists and census records to see if the date is wrong, but couldn't clearly identify them. There are other Isaac Kaminsky's born in the 1880's, which makes it a difficult search. He was a teacher and went into auto parts but also managed a grocery store. They are NOT the Isaac and Sarah Kaminsky you might find in Brooklyn census records. The first time we see them in the records is in 1930 in Detroit, where Isaac (b. ~1888 Poland/Russia) and son Theodore are staying with the Silversteins. Wife Sarah (b. ~1890 Poland/Russia) is probably in some sort of institutution at that time as she was ill for many years. Their only other child is Louis, apparently staying with relatives at that time. According to both the family and the dates in 1930 census, marriage was about 1908. Thanks

    3. Names of cemeteries are always a problem considering many get changed when the ownership changes. Have you checked the following Find A grave wed site? http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=csr&CScnty=2301&CSsr=101& . If that doesn't list the cemeteries you are searching, try going to their forum, go to the PA subforum and post a question for the PA Kounty Keepers.
