If so, he's tied to my tree; his grandparents were Matthew Caldwell, Sr. and Mary Bloom >> I don't know yet who GW's parents were. I started my search for George Wise several years ago based on information that a distant cousin had sent out to my entire known family. I kept hitting dead ends until I finally realized that I was searching for the wrong couple. My George W. WISE b. abt 1812 PA and wife Mary A. BOYD b. abt. 1815 PA show up in the 1850 and 1860 Census for Armstrong County. In 1870 George and Mary A. WISE are listed in Knox Twp., Jefferson County. Their son, Henry J. is also listed in 1870 Rose Twp., Jefferson County. Daughter Phebe, wife of Hugh Steele is listed in 1870 Clearfield County. There is a Levi B. Wise listed in the muster roll of the 11th Pennsylvania Reserve Corps, Co. K (signed up in Jefferson County, Pa) who may be George and Mary's son Levi. (I have to do further research on this.) Eventually, all of George's children that I have found records for ended up in DuBois, Sandy Twp., Clearfield County. I'm trying to determine whether George and Mary also moved there. According to daughter Phebe's death certificate, she was born in Venango in 1846. I have found a George Wise in the 1840 Census index for Irwin Twp., Venango County but have yet to determine whether he is mine. I have determined that the George Wise in the 1850 Census for Oakland Twp., Venango County is not mine. I'm not sure whether the Venango on Phebe's death certificate could have been Venango Twp. in another county. It lists both of her parents as born in PA as do all of the census I've found. I have been looking at the Wises from Butler County, Pa but so far haven't found anything that ties my George to them. I'm also looking at the Boyds in Butler, a lot of them there around the right time frame. Below is all of my WISE information. George and Mary A. were my gr-gr-grandparents: Descendants of George W.
