Posted on: Venango Co. Pa Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/Venango/2285 Surname: Simcox, Gilson ------------------------- Frank Edson SIMCOX, son of Shadrach SIMCOX and Sarah L. ANDERSON, was born in 1866 in Bullion, Venango, PA, and in 1894, married May GILSON, daughter of Thomas C. GILSON, who was born in 1868 in Mercer County, PA. Frank and May both died 30 Jun 1900 in Pao Ting Fu, China. After graduating from Grove City College in Mercer County, he attended Western Theological Seminary in Allegheny City (now Pittsburgh). While there. Frank volunteered to the mission field in China and in 1893 was commissioned to go by the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions. He married his fiancee and they shortly sailed together for China. They were sent first to Peking (now Beijing) and later to Pao Ting Fu (now Baoding). Three children were born while they were in China. Some of the Chinese were not pleased with the Americans and their Christian religion. In 1899, a secret society of Chinese known to westerners as Boxers, began a campaign of terror against Christian missionaries in the northeastern provinces. Known as the Boxer Rebellion, the terrorism escalated until on June 30, 1900 an organized mob entered the west gate of the mission compound and set fire to the buildings. The Simcox household, armed with but one shotgun and two revolvers, held out for several hours, killing two Boxers and wounding eight. After Reverend and Mrs. Simcox were killed, the Boxers crawled beneath the house and set fire to it. The two older children ran outside and were run through by bayonets and their bodies were thrown into a well. Baby Margaret, 3 months old, burned alive. Children: 1 Francis SIMCOX born 1894 in China, died on 30 Jun 1900 in Pao Ting Fu, China. 2 Paul SIMCOX born 1895 in China, died on 30 Jun 1900 in Pao Ting Fu, China. 3 Margaret SIMCOX was born in Mar 1900 in China, died 30 Jun 1900 in Pao Ting Fu, China.
I haven't researched the Lytle name but I have a couple on my web page (below-under Lamberton) Robert Lamberton married Mary Harkness, she was the daughter of William Harkness and Priscilla Lytle. All were from Venango Co, PA. Mary Harkness was b. 20 Apr 1793 and d. 28 Dec 1880 and that looks like your general time frame. Chris Douglas wrote: > Posted on: Venango Co. He was in the Civil War and I have those records. He was my great grandfather and we are looking desperately for info on him. He was supposed to have had 2 sisters who wrote to the family. I have her parents as residing both in Clarion and Venango Counties.
Posted on: Venango Co. Pa Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/Venango/2279 Surname: Riggle, Ferringer ------------------------- I don't have much additional information for you. I have that David Riggle was born in 1835 and was buried in Venango County. The only other information I have on Mary Elizabeth you may already have--that it is believed she was born out of wedlock, adopted by David, but that she continued to use the Ferringer name. There is a picture of her and David and Caroline in Don Ferringer's book. I have additional information on the Ferringer family if you would like.

Pa Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/Venango/2278 Surname: Ferringer ------------------------- I don't have much more information for you other than what you already have. I just purchased Don Ferringer's book; maybe you already have it. It doesn't list Pricilla Pratt's parents. For the children of Pricilla and John, it lists the six children you have mentioned, and not Rebecca. If Pricilla and John had adopted her, she would still be listed. I have additional information (from the book) on the Ferringer side if you would like. I descend from Paul, brother of John D. Ferringer, of Venango and Clarion Counties.

I just purchased Don Ferringer's book, "Ferringers in America Since 1750". Let me know if you want to exchange information.

Posted on: Venango Co. Pa Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/Venango/2275 Surname: Ferringer ------------------------- I have Sarah Ferringer, daughter of Peter Ferringer and Elizabeth Miller, born 1827, but have her born in Lower Mahontongo Twp., Schuylkill County, Pa., not Venango County. She married Michael Dinger and died in Clarion County, Pennsylvania (Clarion borders Venango). I descend from Joseph A. Ferringer, Peter's brother. As I understand it, a group of Ferringer families migrated from Schuylkill County to what is now Clarion County in 1832. I have additional information on the Ferringer family line in you would like it.

Greetings, This will be the last post that I will make for a long time, as I am drained from doing this project. On my site I have compiled the following information in my "All Things Section" of my site located at: http://www.geocities.com/geojenk Be patient as I have a lot of great stuff packed on the pages till I can tweak them for faster loading. Detailed History of McKeesport, Pa Genealogy and Biographies of Early McKeesporters (These are very detailed genealogical biographies on close to 400 individuals that immigrated to McKeesport from other countries/states.) Pictures and Biographies of Prominent Early McKeesporters (Part of above) Western Pennsylvania Family Group Genealogies (Genealogical Biographies on close to 400 family groups that lived in Western Pa. Includes families country of origin where applicable) Biographies of Service Men (WWI) (Men and women who served in WWI from the W. Pa. Area. Detailed info concerning their service record and also a lot of their pictures.) Pictures of Life in 1900s - Western Pa. (Close to 60 pictures showing how life was in W. Pa. during the beginning of the 1900s. There are some people on these pics that may be reconizable. Some immigrant group pics.) Please remember these sources of info are not related to my family research efforts. I have done this project with the intention of sharing the info. I get no financial gain from this effort as my site sells absolutely nothing. Good Luck!!!
