Pa Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/Venango/2427 Surname: ARBUCKLE, ARTHUR, BARTIN, BARTON, BORTEN, BOOTH, BOOTHE, BEYERS, BYERS, DAVIS, FINDLEY, FINLEY, FLETCHER, FREEMAN, HARPER, HENRY, JOHNSTON, MC CALMMENT, MC MILLAN, MC MILLIN, MARTIN, MAYRGUY, MOOR, MOORE, NORFOLK, ORR, REED, RALSTON, ROLSTON, SICKMAN, SIGMAN, TORRENCE, TORRENS, WILLIAMS, WILSON ------------------------- I am researching the Family of Joseph Arbuckle b. about 1750 and his wife Sarah(maiden name unknown) b. about 1765 in MD d.1834 Jackson or Cambridge, Guernsey Co.,OH. It looks as if they had all their children in PA. At the time of his death in 1808 Mifflin,Allegheny Co.,PA, he had property in BeaverTown and on waters of Slippery Rock Creek. This was in his will. Also in his will was that his 2 youngest children Leah and James were to be bound out. This was carried out through the Orphan's Court in 1810. Joseph and Sarah had the following children: Rebecca (m.Lt.John McMillan) Alexander (m.Matilda Sigman/Sickman) Isaac (m.Jane Reed) Margaret (m. Luke Sigman) James W.(m1. Isabelle Henry m2.Jane Montgomery?)He has been seen in Coshocton Co.,OH and is buried in Mt. Zion Cemetary,Guernsey Co., OH Leah (m. Isaac Booth) lived in Coshocton Co.,OH and buried in Tuscawaras Co.,OH, John (m.Mary Arthur) died Jefferson Twp.? 1805, William, Robert, Samuel, Esebella (sp) (m. ?Moor/Moore) and Mary (m. ? Williams). Also possibly had 2 other daughters and 2 other sons, names unknown. Alexander had children in PA, and went on to Parkersburg, Wood Co.,VA buried there with wife Matilda. His daughter Matilda Arbuckle Locker was married in Washington Co.,OH and lived in Parkersburg WV area until she was killed by her husband. It is believed that she had 2 daughters. Joseph's wife Sarah d.1834 went to Guernsey Co.,OH along with some of children, others remained in PA or went west. Rebecca d.1852 and Lt. John McMillan d. 1857 both buried in Salem Cemetary. I believe this Joseph to be part of the family from Accomack, possibly one of the eldest sons who went to PA. I also know that many of my married in families were listed as members of the ROCKY SPRINGS PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN LETTERKENNY TWP., FRANKLIN CO.,PA in 1800. I would love and welcome any and all info regarding any of these family members, and especially parents and sibs of Joseph, or maiden name of Sarah. Arbuckle Trivia: Joseph was under name Arbunkle under Maryland Muster Rolls in Rev War and in Accomack, VA. Affiliation in Accomack was Episcopalian, probably became Presbyterian or Methodist. Had 13 children, can supply names of 9. Lawyer on his will was Samuel Arbuckle, William Wilson was executor. Wife listed as Sarah (no maiden name found) had possible first wife named Priscilla or Rhoda. Had property 1 lott in Beavertown and 1/2 lott on waters of Slippery Rock Creek. I am from son Alexander. Allied names include Davis, Fletcher, Orr, Rolston, Martin, Harper, McMillan, Moore/Moor, Sickman/Sigman, Booth/Boothe, Borte/Bartin/Barton, Beyers/Byers, Williams, Reed, Henry, Torrence, Norfolk, Arthur and John Findley Esq. (2 youngest children Leah and James bound out to him per Orphans Court). Son John m.to Mary Arthur d. 1805 had land in Nottingham Twp. on Peters Creek. Nathaniel Johnston b. 1820 m. Sarah Arbuckle b. 1817-1818 in 1844 in Ohio, children were b.PA.

Pa Biographies Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/VenangoBios/347 Surname: Singleton, Anderson, Nickerson, Thompson, Ramsdale, Moffet, Jewel, Smith, Marshall ------------------------- “Venango County Pennsylvania, Her Pioneers and People”, Vol II, Chicago, J.H. Beers & Co.,1919. Pages 975 - 976 Wilbur E. Singleton, of Franklin, is a member of a respected family of almost one hundred years’ standing in Venango County, founded here by his grandfather, John Singleton, who came to this section in 1820 from Pittsburgh, Pa. He first located at Franklin, and until well on in middle age was there engaged as a manufacturer of brick and bricklayer, taking contracts for such work. He built the first brick house in the city, though such structures were rare in that day, there having been but four brick houses there in 1848. Having purchased a farm in French Creek Township, this county, on the Mercer road, he settled there upon his removal from Franklin, and thereafter followed farming in connection with brick work and the operation of his coal bank, having opened up the Singleton coal bank, now known as the McElhaney Coal bank. His death occurred when he was sixty-eight years old, and he is buried in the old Park cemetery. [Franklin Pioneer Cemetery –records indicate that stones have not been located for John or Letitia at this cemetery] His wife, Letitia (Anderson) died at the age of seventy-four years. They were the parents of the following children: Eleanora, Elizabeth, Anderson, William P., Mary, Milton and Sarah, all now deceased. William P. Singleton, son of John and Letitia Anderson Singleton, spent most of his life as a farmer in French Creek Township, being but twenty-one years old when he settled on the tract on the Georgetown Road where he remained until his death, at the age of seventy-nine years. The property comprised about one hundred acres, and he made an excellent living. He married Elizabeth Nickerson, who lived to the age of eighty years, and they are buried in the Franklin Cemetery. Six children were born to this marriage, namely: Alvin who married Alice Thompson, and both are deceased; Nettie married George Ramsdale, and they live at Franklin, Pa.; Wilbur E. is next in the family; Milford J., who lives on the old homestead in French Creek Township, married Jennie Moffet; Loretta married Milo Jewel, and is living in the Third Ward, in Franklin; Bert married Elizabeth Smith and resides at Fairmount, Indiana. Wilbur E. Singleton was born in 1856 in French Creek Township, and was reared on the old home place there, acquiring his education in the local schools. He took his grandfather’s calling, learning the trade of stone and brick mason, which he followed regularly for a period of thirty-five years, for some years engaged in contracting. He still does occasional work in this line. On November 13, 1894, Mr. Singleton married Elizabeth Marshall, daughter of William Marshall, of Butler county, Pa. They have no children. Mr. and Mrs. Singleton are members of the Methodist Church of Franklin, and she is particularly interested in its work and enterprises, being highly esteemed in the congregation as she is in every other association of life. Transcribed by a non-family member.

    3. Posted on: Venango Co. Pa Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Pa/Venango/2424 Surname: McMullen, Kennedy, Beach, Smith ------------------------- I am looking for any information on my McMullen ancestors. Robert McMullen, my gr. gr. grandfather b. 1837, d. 1870, m. abt. 1860 to Julana Beach, b. 1841, d. 1920, daugther of Israel Beach and Martha Baker and resided for most of his life in Venango Co., in and around Irwin Twp. Robert's parents were John McMullen and Samira? He had at least two siblings I can verify, John and Elizabeth. Can anyone tell me anything more on him, his parents, siblings? He died very young and I would really like to know how. Julana never remarried. They had one son who died at about 11 months old and three daughters, Martha Ellen, my gr. grandmother, Mary Alice who died when she was 11 years old and Sarah Samirah. Martha Ellen and Sarah Samirah married Smith brothers, with Martha marrying John Jackson Smith and Sarah marrying Chester K. Smith. Robert and Julana, Mary Alice and John I., their children, are all buried in Pleasantview Cemetery in Irwin Twp., Venango Co. John and Samira McMullen are also buried there right next to Robert. Any help or suggestions on where to look for more info on this McMullen family would really be appreciated. Is he related to Galbraith "Gilley" McMullen in any way? Does anyone know Samira's maiden name? I will be happy to share what I have on Robert's children and their descendants. Thanks so much for any help.
