Son of Ronald Allen Sweetapple, grandson to Fred Allen Sweetapple. I met my great aunt Doris, may be the same one mentioned here, in Clintonville when I was small. I am very interested in tracing Charles Sweetapple back to England. He is said to have been born in South Ladysmith, Wiltshire, a town that does not seem to exist. It appears our Sweetapple line is distinct from the Sweetapple's tracing their decent to Hampshire. I have corresponded with them and can not find any links.

I think this is a longshot if anything but it is possible that somewhere along the line there could be a connection between families. Although not proven, my lineage has a Mary Sweeny married to a William Trax. Also, according to some people researching the Trax line, there is an Elizabeth Hogg. If these people were all in the Venango County area of PA there may be some kind of connection. Keep on the lookout as will I and maybe we can find something. Good luck! Catherine

    3. Ed, Marriage license were first issued in PA c1883. Your best bet would probably be bible records or church records. I would be very interested in knowing about your SWEENEY line. My 2nd great grandmother, Nancy Ann McCULLOUGH EARLY SWEENEY, married 1st? James EARLY and 2nd? Patrick SWEENEY. Patrick and Nancy were residing in Butler Co, PA on 1880 census, but she died and is buried in Franklin,Venango,PA in 1904. I think there are JENNINGS connected to this line also. 3. I continue to seek the parents of my Great grandfather, Andrew Gilchrist Downing. I firmly believe him to be the grandson of Leanah Walters and Andrew G. Downing. Their son, James D. was born about 1840 and married Angeline Dunhaver in about 1880. They had 3 children-Florence, Robert H. and Helen L. Since there was 20 years difference in the ages of Angeline and James, I wonder if he was previously married and had children of that marriage? I remember the name James Downing being mentioned as I grew-up, but I don't know the connection, if any. If anyone does look-ups in Venango County, please contact me. Sue Downing
