My reference book says that the death records in PA for the years 1893-1905 are kept in the county where the death occured. I would like to obtain the death certificate of my great-grandfather who died in Venango county during that time period. Can someone tell me where to write to obtain this information. Your help is always appreciated. Margaret

As to your question: "help me understand why these children had Thomas McKee as guardian and not any of their Collingwood relatives? ", a quick review of the family shows three brothers that went to the war and did not come back to Venango Co. The rest were off homesteading in the mid-west. A simple analysis, but a good chance to be correct. Could you be so kind as to post, or send me, the names and whatever else of information those papers may contain about the children and the relationship of the guardian to the mother. (possibly a brother in law?)

Margaret, I'm not sure if anyone answered your question or not so I will tell you what I know. Rynd Farm was both a town (village) and an actual farm. During oil boom excitement many of the farms in the valley got caught up in the excitement. If there was an area with a lot of oil wells before long a village would spring up around the wells. Often these towns took on the name of the original land owners such as Rynd Farm (also Shaffer Farm and Miller Farm, just to name a couple). Rynd Farm is still a small village in Cornplanter Township.. there is not much to be found there but a few houses and a depot for the OC&T (a tourist railroad that runs through the valley). I work for the OC&T and have or can get information about the valley it runs through. Hope That helps some Theresa ----- Original Message ----- From: <MargT103@aol.com> To: <PAVENANG-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, December 27, 2000 6:22 AM Subject: [PAVENANG-L] Questions-need help > I have information that my great-grandparents, residents of Venango County, > Cornplanter Twp. lived in a place called Rynd Farm. Hello Hope you had a wonderful holiday.... I am happy to reply with the little info I do have on Arthur Robinson (Robison). He sure has given me a tough time in finding info on him... What I do know: Arthur and his first wife (Sarah Irvine..she died on board ship) immigrated with 2 children approximately in 1797. Arthur ended up in Centre Co, where he married a Margaret Wilson. They travelled with William Wilson and settled near each other in Venango ..Cherry Tree around 1800-1803.. This info is from one of the local history books on Venango. The following are the children: Arthur, Jr. ( I think he was a Col. in the Civil War),Alex, Margaret, Charles, William (1806-1868),Mathew (1811-1874), James.. and Robert L. born 1820 and died in 1894. Robert is my ancestor...he married Jane Pastorius in 1845 and they settled in Titusville, Crawford Co. Their children were George (1848-?), Myron (1850-1908), Frank A (my ancestor---I know nothing of him except that he married Dorothy Proschell and had two children Walter my grandfather (1896-1966) and Herman (1898-1956). Most of my info is at home in Erie, PA. I am spending the winter in the sunshine and warmth of South Texas...2 miles from the border of Mexico. If anyone needs help in this Texas area, I'd be happy to try to check out the local libraries. I also would appreciate any info you have on Arthur Robinson/Robison. I understand they were Presbyterian....I do not even have a date of death for either him of his wife...although I imagine they were buried in CherryTree. I hope this helps you sort out your 2 Arthur Robinson! Nancy

Posted on: Venango Co. Pa Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/Venango/2605 Surname: Snyder ------------------------- Hi Karen, Thank you!!!!!! Darla Kelly 526 Bachman Rd. Natrona Hgts. Pa. 15065-2920
I have been curious for years about Arthur ROBI(N)SON of Venango Co. for years. His name appeared on a number of will/probate documents and other papers of the county. I think this one was probably your Arthur, Jr., whose wife's name was Mary, since his will (proved 20 Jun 1864) indicates there were no children. You see, I am descended from 2 Arthur ROBINSONs--just not your two. Mine were of Lower Hillville, Armstrong Co.: Arthur W. b 1818, and his son, Arthur James, b 1854, whose son, Jesse Golden, was my grandfather, b 1874. Jesse married Ella MATTERN of Scrubgrass Tp, Venango Co, in 1895. Ca 1910 they moved to the old Mattern farm at Big Bend, Venango Co., when my father was about 7 yr old. There were at least three different ROBINSON families (sometimes spelled ROBISON) in Armstrong Co. The ones who lived in Parker & Hovey Tp, were originally from CT, and there is no known connection to us. Ours, according to family legend, came from Ireland, Arthur Sr.'s parents presumable William & Elizabeth ROBINSON. I have some doubts about this parentage because many "facts" simply don't fit. Presumably (again) they arrived in Sugar Creek (later Perry) Tp early & settled on land received from Simeon HOVEY. Simeon was the uncle of Elisha ROBINSON, the one who settled in Parker and who had a son William, probably the one the land warrant belonged to. There are NO census records of our family until 1840 which means they arrived after 1830--and the William (sp ROBBINSON) next door to my Arthur Sr. does not appear old enough to be his father. Also according to legend, besides Arthur, there were 3 brothers, John, who remained in Armstrong Co & never married; Joseph (had a family) & Thomas (also unmarried) after some sort of family squabble moved to Lawrence Co. and established their own Hillville! Except in my family and the one in Venango Co., I have seen no other ROBINSON whose given name was Arthur. Would you possibly have any info on the family which might help solve this mystery? Sorry, I have nothing on an Elgin ROBINSON, although one of our collateral families married into an ELGIN family in Armstrong Co. I'd be glad to share any info I have on the family. Sharon A.
