The more I hear the more confused I get. I thought that perhaps Lodisa and Sylvester were brother and sister but unless her death certificate is incorrect, her father's name was William. Brandon seems to have been a common name in Venango Co. It was good to hear from you again.

I have a beautiful picture of three young girls which I purchased in an antique store this year. They are Marie L, l8 years, Gretchen B. 14 years and Louise G. 11 years. The photo was taken in Milwaukee, WI in 1904. It says they grew up in Kilbourntown. I know that any little bit of information is important. I hope to find these girls ancestors so the picture can go up in someone's home. Sincerely, Joan Schimbeno teatime@rconnect.com

    3. Posted on: Venango Co. Pa Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Pa/Venango/2655 Surname: Brandon, Steffee, Stroup ------------------------- Interestingly enough, there are some parallels between your Lodisa Brandon Flowers and Sylvester Brandon. Like Lodisa, the name of Sylvester's father appears to be a mystery of sorts. Sylvester Brandon was the son of Catherine Steffee and as family tradition has it his father's name was Wesley Brandon. Sylvester was raised in the household of his grandparents Adam and Sarah (Stroup) Steffee in Rockland Tp., Venango Co. He even went by the Steffee name until he was grown. There is no record to date, that I am aware of, of a Wesley Brandon anywhere in the Cranberry/Rockland Tp. Brandons. By the way, Sylvester was a Civil War vet--a sergeant in 64th Regt., 4th Cavalry, Co. L. As far as the James Brandon you mentioned, James was a very common name among that Brandon family so I don't know which one that is, based on what information I have available to me. Hope this is helpful.

    3. Posted on: Venango Co. Pa Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/Venango/2649 Surname: Mannus ------------------------- Hi Dennis I saw your reply to my post about the Mannus family on the Venango Co. site. We found name in my great grandfathers family bible. The name is not very readable but it looks like Johannes Mannus. My ggrandfather was Anders Gulbranson. We have information that says he was from Sweden but other info says Norway. He was born in 1842 or 1841. On a probate of his land the records also talk about Ira Barr, Nancy Barr, Allen N. Clapp and Byron Moore. Any of these names familiar to you? Below is more info on Anders I copied from another letter: I am looking for Ira BARR and Nancy BARR. They may have lived in Ransom County, North Dakota, USA in the late 1800's or in Canada. I found there names on a Sheriffs Deed for Anders GULBRANSON, my great-grandfather. It stated their names as follows: "And where as, Said Mortgages was afterward assigned by an instrument in writing duly acknowledged to Byron MOORE By Allen N. CLAPP and Nancy BARR executors of the last will of Ira BARR, deceased." This took place on Oct 25 1892. Would they be in your family tree? I am trying to find out if the Barrs, Moore and Clapp are relatives of Anders Gulbranson. Here is info about Anders. My great grandfather was a Gulbranson, Anders(Andrew). Born: 22 Oct 1842 or 21 Oct 1841 depending upon which family Bible we use Naturalization papers of 1880 Barnes Co., ND say: they came through the Port of Detroit in 1852, which makes him about age 10- I assume traveling with his parents. It also said he was from Sweden. Other information we have say Norway. He married Anne Forr in Oct of 1881. They lived in Ransom Co., ND from 1881-1885 and maybe through 1895. Anne and the 3 children show up on the Ottertail census of 1895. They had 3 children: Emilie, Gustav, Henre Alfred. All took the last name of Anderson. I also have ancestors by the names of Jens Dunham and his wife Fredericka GULBRANSON. We believe that Anders Gulbranson(my great grandfather)and Fredericka Gulbranson were maybe brother and sister but so far we can't find any proof. Jens and Fredericka lived in Norwegian Grove, Ottertail Co. as well as Anne Forr( Anders wife) Fredericka and Jens Dunham were married in Fillmore Co., MN. So I am assuming that Fredericka is from that area. I believe Jens was also from there. Any help would be appreciated. Have you seen this web site? http://www.gencircles.com/ Thank you Allen J.
