Tomlinson, 82, Emlenton RD 1, a former Fairmount City resident, who died Monday, May 27, 1985. Born Dec. 8, 1902 in Clarion county, he was the son of Martin VanBuren Tomlinson and Roseanna Waldron Tomlinson. He was married to Florence Shellhammer who preceded him in death in July 1967. He then married Nettie K. Mullican on June 10, 1968, who survives. He was a member of United Mineworkers No. 6986. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Merritt (Helen) Voland, of Vandergrift; one granddaughter, Mrs. Alden (Tina) Voland Scot II, of Vandergrift; five sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Josephine) Hughes and Mrs. Floss Bowser, both of Vandergrift, Mrs. Doyle (Genevra) Shick, Walkchalk, Mrs. Rosetta Claypool, Buffalo, N.Y., and Mrs. Essie Bills, Melvindale, Mich. Visitation was held May 29 and 30 at the Criswell-Gardinier Funeral Home in Emlenton. Services were held at the funeral home with the Rev. Garry Bates, pastor of the First Church of God, Parker, officiating. Burial was in Emlenton Cemetery.

Mrs. Bechtel was retired, having worked as a cook at the former Geirrings Restaurant in Emlenton. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Emlenton, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program at Lisbon, and the Golden Age Rhythm Band at Lisbon. In addition to her husband , she is survived by a daughter, Beverly Wade of Emlenton RD 3; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Karle D. McKinny funeral Home in St. Petersburg.

Krear, 82, of 414 Hill St., Emlenton, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 1984, in Franklin Regional Medical Center. Born Aug. 1, 1901 at Emlenton RD, she was a daughter of Plumber and Elizabeth Eakin Williams. She married Arthur L. Krear in August, 1929. He preceded her in death in January, 1967. Mrs. Krear was an artist and teacher. Her chosen medium was watercolor and her favorite subject was still life, particularly flower arrangements. Her paintings had been exhibited at the Laurel Festival, Autumn Leaf festival, and Kennerdell Music and Art festival. She received various awards for her paintings. Mrs. Krear attended area public schools and received a bachelor's degree from Slippery Rock State College in 1922. She also studied art under Art Uncher and attended art classes at Harvard University under Walter Sipie. While there, she was given the opportunity of writing the history of the Harvard Gift Collection of Silver. Mrs. Krear also taught art in the Pittsburgh public schools for seven years. For many years, she had made her winter home in St. Petersburg, Fla., where she was a member of St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts. Mrs. Krear was active in the Venango-Clarion-Forest Tuberculosis Society and had been a board member for more than a quarter-century. She was a member of the Emlenton Presbyterian Church, Emlenton Civic Club, Foxburg Country Club and Penn Women. She is survived by two brothers, Joseph H. Williams of Charleston, S.C., and Lee Williams of Brecksville, Ohio; and two sisters, Mrs. Thomas (Bernice) Kane of Ridley Park, and Mrs. Duane (Dorothy) Hazelton of Denver, Colo. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters: Myrtle, Margaret, Pauline, and Frances. Friends were received at the Criswell-Gardinier Funeral Home in Emlenton. Services were held in the funeral home with Rev. Darrell Knopp of the Emlenton Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment followed in Emlenton Cemetery.

Secretary-Treasurer of the Emlenton Area Baseball Association, he was founder of the area's Independent Baseball League, and was a former assistant fire chief and cub scout master. Born Aug. 10, 1931, in Foxburg, he was the son of Carl C. and Florence Wagner Irwin. Surviving are his wife, Caroline Larimore Irwin, whom he married Sept. 3, 1055; three sons, William C. of Knox, James G. II of Emlenton, and John J., at home; a daughter, Belinda; a brother, John Irwin of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Aldine) Zampogna of Bradford and Mrs. Raymond (Donna) Perkins of Punxsutawney; and two grandchildren, Stephanie and Patrick. A brother, Carlyle, was killed in action in WW II. Friends were received at the Criswell-Gardinier funeral Home in Emlenton. Services were held in the funeral home. Pyle Assemble to do Them Honor, at their Home. About four score persons assembled at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R.J.Pyle, on Bully Hill, yesterday,the occasion being the 50th anniversary of their marriage. At one o' clock three large tables were luxuriantly loaded with an appetising feast, and an hour later nearly everyone had pronounced the spread equal to any ever offered upon such an occasion. Mr. Robert J.Pyle,son of a physician of that name,is about three score and ten and his wife,Mrs.Martha Pyle,nearly his equal in years.They were married in Mercer county by Rev.Jerry Brown in 1855,and made their home in that county for nearly thirty years having come to Venango in 1884;and settled on Bully Hill. Among the guests were Mr.and Mrs. Washignton McConnell,of Lawrence county,where recently they had celebrated their golden wedding,and who were the only persons present who had been at the wedding of Mr. and Mrs.Pyle,fifty years ago.Mr.McConnell is a musician,a "fiddler".They would say in "ye" olden times,who never "carried a note" but who never failed to play a tune he once heard.He favored the company with some old time selections which were well received.Mrs.McConnell is a sister of Mr.R.J.Pyle. The editor of this paper made a short address reminding the guests of the changes since fifty years ago.And of the possible progress yet to be looked for.Several of the older citizens spoke briefly also.The " bride and groom " received many presents,very thoughtfully selected as souvenirs.All joined in singing "God Be With You Till We Meet Again" and about 4 o'clock dispersed for some outdoor fun.One of the items of merry making was a game of ball between the ladies and gentlemen. Oil City SWD published Nov.5,1912 p.5 c.5 Mrs.R.J.Pyle FRANKLIN,Pa.-Oct.31-(Special)- Mrs.Maria Pyle,aged 78,wife of R.J.Pyle,died at the family residence on Bully Hill,at 5:30 o'clock this afternoon,following an illness of four weeks.She had been a resident of that portion of Venango county since early girlhood and enjoyed the friendship and esteem of a large number,especially among the congregation of the East Grove M.E.church of which she was a long time and active member.Beside her husband she leaves the following children;Mrs.Mary Smiley,Franklin;Mrs.Robert Dodds,Rocky Grove and Mrs.Hattie Boals,Mrs.Sylvester McConnell and William,John A.,Frank and Harry Pyle.

Oil City Derrick published March 18,1913 p3 c4 Robert J.Pyle FRANKLIN, March 17----(Special)- Robert J.Pyle,aged 78 years,died at 8:43 o'clock Monday morning at his home in Sandycreek township,after an illness of three years.He was the son of Mr.and Mrs.A.J.Pyle and was born in Lycoming county on July 2,1834.The family moved to Mercer county,where Robert resided until his marriage to Marie E.Annable,on October 4,1855 when they came to Venango county settling on Bully Hill.For many years Mr.Pyle was a carpenter and rig builder and 15 years ago engaged in the oil producing business in the Bully Hill district.His wife died four months ago.Of the eleven children in the family,eight survive as follows:Mrs.Fred Smiley,Franklin;Mrs.R.G.Dodds Rocky Grove;William J.Pyle,Mrs.S.C.McConnell,John A.Pyle,Mrs.E.J.Boals,Harry Pyle,Frank H.Pyle of Bully Hill.One brother and three sisters survive as follows;B.F.Pyle,Denver,Col;Mrs.Phoebe Hudson,New Brighton;Mrs.Martha McConnell,Volant;Mrs.Emily E.Smith,Los Angeles,Cal.The deceased was a member of the East Grove M.E.Church. The funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the residence.

He was born Feb.6,1897,in Cherrytree,a son of William and Mary Tarr Fry. Mr.Fry was employed by Pennzoil Co.,and later operated the barber shop. He was a member of the Rouseville United Methodist Church,the Rouseville Volunteer Fire Department and the Loyal Order of Moose in Oil City. Mr.Fry was first married to Vivian Pyle who proceded him in death July 10,1951.He later married Adelia Rennard who also proceded him in death. Surviving are a son,Clinton Fry of Franklin,three daughters,Mrs.James (Ruby) Monarch of Franklin,Mrs.Ernest (Louise) Zelinski of Waterford and Mrs.John (Doris)Dibbley of New Castle;a step-son,John Rennard of Oil City,three sisters,Mrs.Clara Johnson and Mrs.Harriet Tenney,both of Oil City,and Mrs.Mary Hartman of Miami,Fla.;seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Friends may call after 2 p.m.Tuesady in the Charles A.Morrison Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.Tuesday. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.The Rev.William Shaw,pastor of teh Rouseville United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be in the Rynd Farm Cemetery.
