Armstrong, 85 of Allegheny Manor in Shippenville, died Friday, June 22, 1990 at the home. She had been a resident of Emlenton. Born July 13, 1904, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Amy Bovard Kelley. She was a member of the Emlenton United Methodist Church, and had enjoyed cooking and baking. She was employed for more than 35 years by the Quaker State Corp. She worked in the Emlenton office, retiring in 1964. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Norma J. Armstrong of Emlenton; three grandsons Derry L. Armstrong of Blytheville, AR, Terry Kevin Armstrong of Pittsburgh, and Kelley B. Armstrong of Knox; and a granddaughter, Mrs Jodi A. (Brian) Barrett of Shippenville. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren; and two nieces. She was preceded in death by a son, Conrad B. Armstrong, who died Dec. 21, 1974; two brothers; and a sister. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 pm today in the Christopher M. Hile Funeral Home. Rev. Arthur T. Moffat Jr., pastor of the Emlenton United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Emlenton Cemetery.

Survivors include a sister, Miss Evalyn Burchfield of Emlenton; a niece, Mrs. Joyce (John) Rider of Chicora. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Brown in 1983. Funeral services were held in the Criswell-Gardinier Funeral Home in Emlenton with Rev. Earl Runge pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment followed at the Emlenton Cemetery

Black--he was a prof. of Latin at the college at the beginning--so he could be the one.???? Sheri

I have some census info on the Black's--but not much else--I did try and find a will for John Black--but it was early in my research and I think that I only looked in Mercer Co. My computer crashed andy I lost some info--had most of it backed up--but I did lose some stuff. My husband's grandmother was born in McDonald--she married Lyle Slater who was the son of Maude Brewster (Lucas and Mary's daughter) and John Slater. I am going to go through all of notes and see what I have --I'd like to exchange info. Thank you so much for the info!!!! Sheri

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Mrs. Gladys Sheehan, of Emlenton and a number of cousins. Friends were received at the Criswell funeral Home, Emlenton. Requiem mass was conducted Friday at St. Michael's Church. Interment followed in the Church Cemetery.

P. Evans, in Oil City, Sunday afternoon Dec. 20th, 1937 following an illness of three weeks. He was born October 26, 1849, at Fryburg, Clarion County, Pa., a son of Jacob and Anna Miller Rapp. On June 23, 1874 he was united in marriage with Mary Denslinger, of Fryburg, who preceded him in death several years ago. To this union were born seven children, three of whom survive: Mrs. F. P. Evans, of Oil City; Mrs. Henry Clay, of Harrisburg and Cletus Rapp of Emlenton. He is also survived by two sisters, one brother and eight grandchildren. In 1924 Mr. and Mrs. Rapp celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic church, Emlenton. Mr. Rapp was one of the oldest former oil men of this entire area and in the early days of the industry was engaged in teaming in the oil fields of Petrolia, ! Pithole, Petroleum Center and Rouseville. Mr. Rapp took his initiatory degree in the oil business in the year 1867 on Oil Creek, his first work being that of driving team, which he followed for a number of years to finally embark on a teaming business of his own following the developments down the Allegheny River and into Butler County, where he conducted a livery and feed stable in Petrolia. In 1889 he went to Kennerdell, where in 1906 he struck a well that started off at 1,500 barrels a day. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning in St. Michael's church, conducted by Rev. Francis A. Hartleb. Interment followed in the Emlenton cemetery, with the following acting as pall-bearers: John T. Brosnahan, Thomas Barnes, Michael Curran, Joseph Grieff, Peter Rapp and James Sheehan.

Services were held at funeral home at 357 S. Second St., Steelton. With Rev. Leonard Casey officiating. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery, Harrisburg, PA.
