Hi Venango listers, A member of another PA list reported today on a Penn State University site: <http://apps.libraries.psu.edu/digitalbookshelf/books.cfm> I just visited it and checked it out. This site isn't completely usable without a HIGH speed internet connection. Many of the tomes on the Digital Bookshelf are 10, 20 or even 100+ mb in size. I happened to hit one of the latter and was able to go have lunch while it was downloading. And I have a broadband connection! These are all PDF (Adobe acrobat reader) files. They are well indexed. HOWEVER, unless you have a pretty good idea which volume contains info on your ancestor or other topic, you'll waste a LOT of time waiting for stuff to download, then scanning through it only to find one tiny reference to your relative amidst a list of landowners or Civil War soldiers. While the "search" feature does work, it seems to yield dozens of hits, with no useful accompanying text to give you a clue as to what there might be on the subject you're searching for. Your best bet might be to try this address: <http://apps.libraries.psu.edu/digitalbookshelf/> Select "browse by title", then see if there appears to be a book which looks promising. THEN download the book and search through it. Good luck! Chuck Carey researching PERRY, SMITH, RUSSELL, LANE in Venango county, PA

The census references 1 male between 40 and 50, 1 male between 15 and 20, and 1 male between 5 and 10, with 3 females under the age of 5, 1 female between 5 and 10, 1 female between 10 and 15, 1 female between 15 and 20, and 1 female between 30 and 40. It is possible that this may be the same William Beer who is found in Jefferson Co PA in the 1830 census. I have a Sarah A Beers born 1800/1801 who is found in Allegheny City, Allegheny Co, PA from 1850 until her death in 1879. Directories note that she is the widow of a William. She has known daughters Margaret b abt 1835, Eliza b 1837, Matilda b abt 1843, Lavina b abt 1844, and a possible daughter Maria b abt 1832. Looking into the possibility that this William was married to my Sarah.

I do not have the names of Ruth Everhart's parents or beyond, so I would be interested in anything on the Everhart line, but more specifically, I am wanting more information on Christian Everhart Lytle and his wife Anna Jones and their children. My maiden name is Lytle, and I've have a hard time filling in my Lytle branches. I've only recently identified Christian as my g-g-g-grandfather. Thanks so much. Maybe Julius went by another name. Since Roy Stephen was not born until June 1881, I have not been able to find him until 1900. Which is where I found him with James M (aka Parker Beatty) and Mattie. Do you know if there are any birth records for the year 1881, where I could find Roy. The draft card for him shows DOB as June 21, 1881. Mattie has been my brick wall for the longest time. I have no idea how many times she must have been married. I will try your suggestion in the meantime. Thanks again, Annie

I am searching for a marriage record for my great grandmother Mattie Cook- Beatty (nee Davison) born May 1863. She had a son Roy in June 1881. She married Parker Beatty (born June 1863 in Venango), (also known as James M. Beatty) around 1885. The father of her Roy is unknown, James M. Beatty adopted him when they married and I am unsure if there is a court record of the adoption. It is unclear as to where the name Cook came from. Mattie is my brick wall. Her death record shows her mother's name is Eliza and her father is Mr. Davison, that is all, no other clues. I would greatly appreciate any help offered. Thank you, Annie
