    3. The Historical Society, near the courthouse, is the place to start. They have excellent records and very helpful staff. There are indices to many courthouse records, allowing you to check the index before viewing the records at the courthouse. Check their website at http://www.franklinpa.net/vchs.htm for hours and location. Best of luck and good hunting. On the 1900 census, Allegheny, Sharpsburg, the question about the number of children living and the number of children, both has 1. I know of at least two children, Harry and Roy but why would she answer 1 to the question especially since both Roy and Harry were living with them at the time. I have come to believe that anything is possible where Mattie is concerned. You are a good detective though. I am pretty sure that Mattie's father was from England. Every census I have for her it says her father is from England. Of course I would not know about any of her possible other husbands and their families. I am getting more and more confused by her. I have heard that sometimes the mother's maiden name was used as the daughter's middle name. I have not really researched this avenue yet. Do you think Eliza could have been Eliza or Elizabeth Cook? Thanks again, Annie
