    1. Nancy (Cousins) Allen, d/o William Cousins
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Cousins, Allen, Hawthorn Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0dB.2ACI/4157 Message Board Post: Nancy Cousins, daughter of William Cousins and wife of Samuel Allen William Cousins of Sugar Creek Twp, Venango County, Pennsylvania died in 1825 leaving a will, see Venango County Will Book A page 40, written 15 April 1825 and probated 23 April 1825. William left a widow, Mary Ann, and five living children, or sons Thomas & William; and daughters Elizabeth, Nancy and Sarah. William also mentions that an equal share was to go to his son Samuel's children, not named. Witnesses were Royal Brown and John Wilson. As the will does not mention the husbands of the daughters, there has been much speculation about various Cousin women with the names of those mentioned in William's will. A recent examination of the deeds located in the Register of Deeds office, Franklin, Venango County, Pennsylvania, proves that Nancy Cousins, daughter of William, was married to a Samuel Allen by 1830 and both living in Muskingum County, Ohio by that date as well. Venango County Pennsylvania Deed G: 79-80 A deed located in the Register of Deeds office, Franklin, PA, Deed Book G, pages 79 & 80, dated 20 September 1830 and recorded January 1836, identifies the grantors as Samuel Allen and his wife, Nancy, daughter and devisee of William Cousins, deceased, who had resided in Sugar Creek Twp, Venango County, PA, at the time of his death. Samuel and Nancy sold her share in William’s estate to John D. Hawthorn of Sugar Creek Twp, Venango County, PA, for $150.00. Please note that William’s land was adjacent to that of David Mead, deceased. Please note that Samuel Allen was noted as living in Sugar Creek Twp, Venango County, PA during the 1810 federal census but by 1820 was located in Rich Hill Twp, Muskingum County, Ohio. Samuel and Nancy continued to live there and were noted there as late at the 1860 federal census when Samuel is 77 years of age born PA; and, Nancy is 69 years born PA. Roger N. 1. Elizabeth (Cousins) Brown of Venango Co, PA & Morgan Co, OH
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Cousins, Brown, Allen, Hawthorn Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0dB.2ACI/4151 Message Board Post: Elizabeth Cousins, daughter of William Cousins and wife of William Brown William Cousins of Sugar Creek Twp, Venango County, Pennsylvania died in 1825 leaving a will, see Venango County Will Book A page 40, written 15 April 1825 and probated 23 April 1825. A recent examination of the deeds located in the Register of Deeds office, Franklin, Venango County, Pennsylvania, proves that Elizabeth Cousins, daughter of William, was married to a William Brown by 1830 and both living in Union Twp, Morgan County, Ohio by that date as well. In the first deed mentioned below, William and Elizabeth Brown appoint Samuel Allen as their attorney to sell her share of William's estate; and the second deed actually sells the share to John D. Hawthorn. Venango County Pennsylvania Deed G: 65-66 A deed located in the Register of Deeds office, Franklin, PA, Book G, pages 65 & 66, dated 28 August 1830 and recorded 24 December 1835, identifies the grantors as William Brown and his wife, Elizabeth, late Elizabeth Cousins and daughter of William Cousins. William and Elizabeth were living at Union Twp, Morgan County, Ohio at the time of the deed. William and Elizabeth appointed Samuel Allen, resident of Rockhill Twp, Muskingum County, Ohio, as their attorney to sell Elizabeth's rights to two parcels of land previously owned by William Cousins, deceased; one being the "home tract" of 150 acres land occupied by William Cousins, son of William Cousins; and the second parcel about 200 acres in Venango County. Venango County Pennsylvania Deed G: 67 A second deed dated September 1830; also recorded in 1835, with grantors William and Elizabeth Brown of Morgan County, Ohio and Samuel Allen their attorney sell land to John D. Hawthorn of Venango County, Pennsylvania. The deed specifies that William Cousins, deceased of Venango County, Pennsylvania, by his last will and testament, dated 15 April 1825 and recorded in the Register's Office in Franklin, devised that the whole of his real estate to be sold upon the death of his widow and to be divided equally among William's children. Accordingly, Elizabeth Brown, as one of the daughters of William Cousins, along with her husband, William Brown, sells her share to John D. Hawthorn for $133.33. Roger N. 3. I did a google search- Typed in Allegheny River Bridge at Emlenton, Pennsylvania... This is what I got: Emlenton Bridge The Emlention Bridge spanned the Allegheny River at this location from 1883 to 1987. Originally constructed of wrought iron, it consisted of two double-inter-section pratt trusses, built by the wrought iron bridge company for the Emlenton Bridge Company, in 1898 it became the first free bridge in Venango County to cross the Allegheny. A side note: The bridge carrying PA Route 38 over the Allegheny lasted about 104 years before being destroyed. Hope this helps...
