Forwarding this if someone is interested Bill -----Original Message----- From: Brian Nichols [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, July 13, 2005 12:52 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [GAFULTON] Genealogy Classifieds I have just started a website at www.genealogyclassifieds.com and would like to see if anyone wanted to list any old genealogy books or publications here. Its free and hopefully someone may have a book or society magazine someone else needs as well as putting some of the original cost you incurred back into your own pocket for new genealogical books or publications purchases. FYI, I started this because there are a lot of out of print books I am looking for and cant find anywhere to get them. Hopefully this will help me as well as some others in the process. So feel free to forward this to other list you may be members of. I receive no money from this in any way in case some of you were wondering.... Brian Nichols

On August 1, New York State's first immigration processing center, Castle Garden, will celebrate its 150th birthday. To commemorate this special occasion, the Battery Conservancy will launch its new website -CastleGarden.org - where researchers can do online searches of the expansive database of Castle Garden passenger lists! Castle Garden first opened its doors on August 1, 1855 and would see 8 million immigrants pass through her doors in her 34 year reign! The passenger lists pertaining to these 8 million immigrants are currently found at the National Archives, and they are *not* indexed. This monstrous project has been led by Dr. Ira Glazier, former Director of the Center for Migration Research at the Balch Institute for Ethnic Studies and Immigration. To learn more about the Castle Garden website, and to be notified of its official launch, please see: www.CastleGarden.org Truly a dream come true for all those whose ancestors passed through the Castle! --------------------------------- Start your day with Yahoo! - make it your home page
Thanks to all who answered my inquiry about Parker's Landing. It's been fascinating to see all the answers and helpful info. I did locate Parker (and an old map of Parkers Landing) in the right counties, and I have some great new avenues for further research. Thank you all for your help. To: "Phil Fleming" [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) Parker's Landing is in Armstrong Co, an extension of Parker just south of Emlenton, in Venango Co. Some maps show Parker's Landing across the Allegheny in Clarion Co. IN ERROR which has always led to a great deal of confusion. My gr-grmother lived at Parker's Landing with her children in the 1890's, and my grandfather took us to the site in the 1950's. Sharon Huffman [email protected]
I am looing for info on how to track naturalization records for ancestors who came to the US and first settled in the county circa 1865. Any ideas? All help appreciated. Paul W. -- Open WebMail Project (http://openwebmail.org)
My great-grandparents were married in "Parker's Landing" which I believe to be in Venango County, but can't find it. Can anybody help? My Great-Grandparents were John Joseph Fleming and Mary Gordon Bracken Fleming. Here is the information I have, taken from my great-grandmother's obituary in the Burlington (Iowa) Hawk-Eye, January 27, 1947: "Mrs. Fleming, the former Mary Bracken, was born Feb. 13, 1862, in Parker's Landing, Pa., the daughter of Patrick and Mary Esther Bracken, and was educated at Loretto academy, Loretto, Pa. Her father was a railroad contractor, built some lines of the Pennsylvania railroad, and operated extensively in the development of oil fields in his home state. She met John J. Fleming while visiting in Burlington, and they were married in Parker's Landing May 15, 1884, and came here to make their home." I can't find Parker's Landing on the map, and wonder if it still exists today, or if the place name has been changed. Also, what would be the name of the local Roman Catholic Church where they were married? Any help greatly appreciate. Thanks. -- Phil Philip B.
