Worker, Struck By Auto Tuesday Morning DIES IN HOSPITAL Franklin, Sept, 20-Anthony Sutherland of 353 Pacific St., this city, died at the Franklin hospital at 7:10 o'clock Tuesday morning from injuries sustained 23 minutes earlier when he was struck by an automobile on the roadway of the 8th St. bridge. Mr. Sutherland, employed for 28 or 30 years by the Pennsylvania railraod was on his way to his work in the car inspection shop at the Venango yards below Franklin, walking in company with another man. When they neared the end of the bridge nearest the Pennsylvania railroad tracks, an automobile came along and Mr. Sutherland was offered a ride in it. He ran out from the walk to go across the roadway, just as an automobile driven by Harold Mitchell of River Ridge farm, came down the Bredinsburg hill and upon the bridge. It struck Mr. Sutherland and injuries were the result which were immediately seen to be most serious. Mr. Mitchell stopped and took the injured man to the office of Dr. C. M. Wilson, who ordered the patient sent at once to the Franklin hospital. This was done, but he died while being takenn in the elevator up to the ward. Apparently he died from shock. Both of his legs were broken below the knee, one of them in a compound fracture with the broken end of the bone protruding through the clothing. It was also thought he was internally hurt. It is stated by eye witnesses, including the man who was walking with Mr. Sutherland, that Mr. Mitchell was in no way to blame for the accident, as he did not have time to stop after seeing the man coming into the roadway from behind one of the bridge girders. Mr. Sutherland was 43 years old, having been born on August 20, 1879. He was a native of Oil City, but from 1917 had lived in Franklin. Surviving him are his wife and the following children: Mrs. Paul Goodwill, Franklin; Miss Katheryn Sutherland, William Sutherland, David Sutherland, Anthony Sutherland Jr., and Irene Sutherland, all at home. Also the following sisters and one brother: Mrs. C. R. McQuowf(?), of Oil City; Miss Elsie Sutherland of Oil City and J. H. Sutherland of Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Sutherland was a devaut member of the Grace Lutheran church, secretary of it's Official board and active in every church enterprise. Rev. J. W. Rammey, pastor of the church told today how active Mr. Sutherland had been in the membership canvass which the church conducted last fall. "His heart and soul was in everthing for the welfare of the church." the pastor said. The deceased was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose. It is about 1 mile North of the intersection of State Route 173 and Route 965 also known as Perrine's Corners. Check the Mercer Co Genealogy Website as it has a fairly good list of the graves or contact me as I live not far away and am familiar with the site. Have some pictures of the stones and can easily take more. Again, hope this helps ric Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Is your Benjamin Mong any relation to a Raymond Mong? Raymond Mong's mother was Esther Johnson (if I read the chart right) and I don't know his father's first name just have Mong as the surname. It looks like Raymond had a sister named Dolores which by the way is the same first name as my mother. They apparently were cousins of my Grandfather - Richard Blaine Kelley. I have a copy of a pedigree chart done by an unknown relative (may be Avalyn May Kiser's work). Anyway, just curious.
