Just ask for copies of the pages listed for a surname in the index. If there is no index, better forget it! Also if you ask for too many pages to be copied at once, you may run into copywrite infringement problems. You probably will be asked to set an upper limit of what you will be willing to pay for copied pages. Any charges are set by the library which holds the book and which will do the copying, not by the requesting library. Library policies on charging are widely varied. I have found that I seldom get any charges assessed for under 15-20 pages copied from reference works. Nels
