    3. The turnpike that the book is referring to is Rte. 45 West between Lewisburg and Mifflinburg. It was an old turnpike with a tollbooth at the river on Market St. Lewisburg. There are a few schoolhouses along the way which are now used by the Amish. The trouble is determining which one the book is referring to. As far as the farmhouse goes, that's easy. It's the first farm past Forest Hill on the right. Forest Hill is just a blink. If you're driving West on 192, you'll see a cemetery on your right and a little service station. This is the heart of Forest Hill, continue on, and the farmhouse is on your right. Yes, it is worth having the Historical Society do an hour's research for $25, as long as you've narrowed your search. The society does not appreciate queries such as: Looking for the Brown family of Lewisburg. If you can provide enough information, however, which you seem to have, they'll gather as much as they can. AND, just cause they say "one hour" doesn't mean they stop when a bell goes off. They can look up deeds, wills, marriages, births, deaths, pension records, etc., it's quite a resource. Hope this helped, and to all Union County Researchers, Happy Holidays.
