    3. According to the 1850 Union County census, Thomas HARTLEY, aged 36, was living in Centre Township, which means he would have been born ca. 1814. In 1850 Snyder and Union counties were combined, and Centre Township (formed in 1805, and then a part of Northumberland County, as Union County was not formed until 1813) including present-day Penns Creek (also known as Centerville). [source: The Story of Snyder County]. In checking the "Snyder County Pioneers", I find no entries for any Hartleys. Do you find a natural progression in Thomas HARTLEY's family in each respective census for possible Johns. John would have been abt. 16 in 1860, and 26 in 1870. When/where did John HARTLEY die? Did he die in 1906 or after in PA? write for his death certificate. What about his obituary? Did he serve during the Civil War? write for his pension records. Check his will or other probate records for more clues. Is Thomas mentioned as an heir? Have you checked land records? Perhaps John and Thomas lived near each other. Perhaps there were land transactions between them. Only some suggestions, Sid At 02:44 PM 1/23/00 -0500, RonLyn Mockenhaupt wrote: > There is a Thomas Hartley age 36, >Sarah-35, Eliza 9, John 6, and Mary 1, living in Centre Twp., Union >County.
