Just wanted to update you (it's sleeting out, good weather for web surfing). I found out that C.F. Diffenderfer was the principal of Berwick Academy in Columbia County in 1875. This is the first document I've found in Pennsylvania for my elusive ancestor. (History of Columbia and Montour Counties, PA, ed. J. H. Battle, 1887). I'm so delighted.... So, listers...did he marry one of his students, perhaps?????? Does anyone have access to the 1860 or 1870 censuses for Union County? Anyone know of any Diffenderfers who moved to surrounding counties in the 1850s, 1860s, 1870s? Or any schools I should check, either for Clifford's education, or for teachers employed during the time?
