Does anyone on the list know what the initials "S.A.B." mean on a deathrecord found at the courthouse??? The person in question died at the Cumberland County Home but we have never been able to find documentation [not even in an obit.] of where he was buried - Could it mean "state approved burial"? - If there is such a thing???? Thanks... Donna Heller Zinn

I'm searching for the ancestry of Benjamin Franklin SMITH. He was born ca 1859, supposedly in Turbotville, Northumberland Co. PA. He married Emma Caroline WINEGARDNER by 1881 and settled in Union Co. PA (around Lewisburg). They had the following children: Mary Elizabeth b. ca 1881 Rachel Jane b. 1884 m. Jacob BRIDGES & Henry PENNYCOFF Ruth Anna b. 1887 m. Samuel McCULLUM Margaret Ellen b. 1889 William Henry b. 1890-1894 was in WWI, lived in Pittsburgh PA in 1919 Katie May b. 1895 Hilda Marie b. 1897 m. Paul C. SNYDER & George W. RENNER I descend from Hilda Marie (who always went by the name Marie). She and her husbands moved around but seemed to have lived mostly in the Bloomsburgh, Columbia Co. PA area until they moved to NY in the 1940s. Any idea who Benjamin SMITH's parents were? Vickie Elam White

My g-g-g-grandparents, George & Isabella (VOGAN) BOOK apparently married in the Buffalo Valley in the 1790's. George was the son of Johann Georg and Christina (METZGER) BOOK. Other siblings of George are known to have married DREISBACH, SCHOCH, and WOLF. I'm interested in corresponding with anybody who is researching either VOGAN or BOOK, BOOKS, BUCHS, BUCKS, BUX in what eventually became Union Co. Ed Book

I am looking for data on the Gill & Dauberman Families of Union County from mid 1800's to present. Grandma's mother was Sarah Jane Gill and her daddy was John Dauberman who died in 1933. It is believed they may have been cross county residents/travelers between Union & Centre Counties. It's my understanding Sarah Jane Gill died about the turn of the century and was buried in some churchyard (?) but the cemetery was relocated about 20 years later due to highway construction or something and she was reinterred elsewhere. Does anyone know about this. It's hard to research this from Washington State as a transplant. I was born & raised in Sunbury, Northumberland County. Please respond to mxradar@aol.com. At this stage anything would be welcome. Gene

REIGLE Family Surname: REIGLE, MILLER, RICHARDSON, DALRYMPLE, TAYLOR, FULTON Searching for the parents and siblings or further information on George REIGLE (aka RIEGEL, REIGLES, etc.). George was b.ca.1787. He was md. to a Margaret _____ (b.ca.1797) and had at least one son, George (b.1814)[info from 1860 Juniata Co., Lack Twp. Pennsylvania Census]. George purchased ground on 19-Dec-1855 in Lack Twp., Juniata Co., PA. from James Lauthers (of Lack Twp.). At that time George was listed as "of" West Beaver Twp., Union Co., PA. [I presume that it should say "Snyder Co." as Snyder was formed from Union in March 1855??.] I feel that George had a sister, Mary Jane who was married to David Miller and resided near him in 1860 in Lack Twp., Juniata Co.. I also think that he had a brother, Samuel who bought ground in Juniata Co. together with George from Joseph and Catherine (Miller) Richardson. [note: Catherine is a daughter of David and Mary Jane (Reigle) Miller.] George and wife, Margaret later sold the above mentioned ground to a Jacob Felmlee of Tell Twp., Huntingdon Co., PA. on 1-Apr-1865. Can someone provide information or point me in the right direction?! Thank you in advance... Donna Heller Zinn
Does anyone know how Gregg Township received its name? Thank you in advance. Gail in NE

You might try writing to the office of Register & Recorder, Union Co. Courthouse, Lewisburg PA 17837. My reference book, now 8 years old, gives the county courthouse switchboard # as 717-524-8761, but area codes were re-aligned a year or two ago in PA. Lewisburg may have received a new area code, but I am told the old code may also still work properly. I live in Arizona and cannot answer your question about costs. Nelson
Hi Group: I'm subscribing briefly to see if there are any descendants of James L. Keefer who was born in 1820 in Union County, PA. I have a wonderful biography on him and two of his sons. Donna

I came across something recently that referenced a Messiah Church near Alvira, Gregg Twp, Union Co, PA. The family was Lutheran that was supposed to attend there. Does anyone know if this church is still in existence? Another source talked about a different family in the area being Old School Lutheran. Was that a church in the area? It sounds more like a theological orientation than a church. I am trying to locate the graves of two brothers, Johannes (John) BOWER and Moses BOWER, who lived somewhere in what is today Brady or Washington Twps, Lycoming Co, and Gregg Twp, Union Co. At the time of their death's, about 1805, much of this area was White Deer Twp, Northumberland Co. The descendents of these brothers were in the areas around Elimsport and Alvira. Can anyone suggest where Lutherans living in that area may have worshipped during 1800-1815 and what cemeteries we should check for these burials? We've already checked Elimsport, St. John's EUB/UMC, and the three Alvira cemeteries. We have found family members in all of these, but not Johannes or Moses. Thanks for your attention to my questions. Harold Bower haroldbo@ibm.net Researching BOWER - marriages with BUCK, HARNER, OAKES, SCHOOLEY, WILSON, MILLER, PAULING EY, = WILSON, MILLER, PAULING
