    1. WARNER Genesee County "Overseer of the Poor" WARNER (KMO)
    2. Hello All, I am asking for any help anyone can give me regarding the dead-end I have hit regarding my WARNER roots in Genesee County, Michigan. The family I am seeking is that of WASHINGTON WARNER and his wife Mary (unknown maiden name). In the 1860 census, three of their children are shown: GEORGE (1847), LYDIA 1850) and EMORY BRADFORD WARNER ( my great-grandfather) (1852). All three were born in Flushing Township (Genesee County, MI). By 1880, Emory Warner has married CAROLINE PERKINS, whose family hailed from Jefferson County, New York and settled in Hemlock (Saginaw County), MI. Washington WARNER's occupation is listed as a shoemaker, a trade carried on by his sons. The 1860 census records also show that Washington and Mary were born in New York, but the 1880 census shows them being born in Pennsylvania. A book titled "The History of Genesee County" (MI) written around 1890, shows Washington Warner listed under "Overseers of the Poor 1848. There are Warner references in Eaton and Shiawassee Counties, MI. Family lore from my 95 year old cousin says The Warner family in Pennsylvania might have been from the Philadelphia or Pittsburgh areas, with a reference to "Pennsylvania Dutch," which surprised me because I have been told my Warner's emigrated from either England or Ireland. Yes, I'm confused too! Thank you for taking the time to read all of this. Any information will be 100% more than I have right now. Can I sound any more pitifully desperate? Sincerely, Kevin O'Brien Laguna Hills, California Researching: Dorchester Perkins Shannon Van Schaick Warner Ivall Lowe Gauley

    3. This question has confused me as well, and I live here in Union County and am the coordinator for the Union County WebPage, and owner of this list. The Union County Historical Society told me that when the counties changed, all information remained at the former county courthouse. Seeing that your ancestor was born in 1817, before Snyder County had even formed, your family's information is most likely at the Union County Courthouse. What you could do, is contact the Historical Society at Hstoricl@ptd.net <mailto:Hstoricl@ptd.net> and ask them if they would do a look-up on their birth, marriage, death index, to at least find the name for you. Maybe they will encourage you to contact Snyder County, instead, but it's worth the look-up to save time. >Danielle McCormick, Union County, PA GenWeb -----Original Message----- From: bgreen [SMTP:bgreen@boreal.org] Sent: Thursday, November 18, 1999 12:04 AM To: PAUNION-L@rootsweb.com Subject: County Help I am new to the list and new to searching in Pennsylvania. I have recently found my ggggrandfather born in Union County in 1840. My gggggrandfather was born in Snyder County in 1817. I have checked the PAGENWEB page for counties and it says that Union County was formed in 1813 from Northumberland and that Snyder County was formed from Union County in 1855. My question is in regards to where and how should I be searching for records? In what county for the year 1817. Would I go to Union for Snyder County records in 1817? Thank you for any help. Bev

    3. Andy: Do you know where this person came from? What country? If you do you could possibly try and find the passenger list they are on. Or if lucky like I was if they are from Norway there is lots of info out there for that country. Try posting to the list the name and date you are looking for. Sometimes I have been able to help someone find something that way as I remember coming across a site that may be helpful to them. 1. Tribune lookups
    2. Andrew Reichenbach
    3. As I stated before about the Tribune lookups, I was not sure what I would find in the microfilm rolls. I started looking though for my own ancestor (I had no responses by then) and I found absolutely nothing on him in the weeks before and after his death date. Here is the problem : The newspaper seems to have been published from Selinsgrove and only release weekly. My ancestors death date just happened to fall on a publish date. Anybody who has been looking for an obit or something similar knows that if they don't find something in the few days following thre death, nothing will probably be found. I think my ancestor just happend to "fall between the cracks" of the 'papers release dates. Oh well, I'll keep looking... What I have seemed to find was more instances of death listings of people who lived in the Selinsgrove area, not as much in the smaller areas like Chapman other out of the way towns. The odd thing which I was not aware of, is the listing of people visiting other families in the county. This was usually found whenever a county resident left the county to visit outsiders or vice versa. Interesting... As far as other peoples items, I will look for the items while I still have the microfilm (probably will be returned in early December). I received several responses already this evening and I am generating a list of names and dates to look for. I just hope I can manage the list and it doesn't get out of hand. Please remember, I am doing all of this for nothing and I have limited time. If you have a full name or date which may appear in the paper at a specific time, pass it on. I'll scan the articles the best I can, but I can't promise that I won't miss something that I wasn't directly looking for. I will try to make a list of occurances of all names passed on to me and where they were found. I'll see what info I can get to those lucky people. Does anyone out there know of other newspapers that were available between 1850 and 1900 (or beyond) which centered around Middleburg and might have included the smaller communities? Thanks to all and good luck! Keep the names and dates coming. The sooner I get them the sooner I can look them up.

    1. Snyder County Tribune Lookups
    2. Andrew Reichenbach
    3. I will have access to some microfilm rolls of the Snyder County Tribune. The newspaper was put out weekly between 1864-1944. I will have access between now and the first week in December or so. I am getting only certain years at a time so. I have available : 1890-1899 of the Snyder County Tribune. I plan to get the other years which were available, including 1864-1944. I am personally looking for an ancestor's obituary. Depending on the actual content of the newspaper, I am willing to do simple lookups for names. Note : I haven't seen the film as of yet and I do not know how readable the issues will be, but I can try. I'm not sure what was even in the Tribune but I am hoping to find obituaries or something related. <fingers crossed> If anyone has a name which I could lookup, feel free to send to my address (areich@blazenet.net) with "Tribune lookup" in the subject. My mail server will sort the requests to keep them together. As long I am not overwhelmed with requests, I'll see what I can find. Please include a name, event (with a date), or something like that. I am hoping to not have to read every issue but just skimming. If you know of an exact issue, let me know. I'll look closer. Andy Reichenbach areich@blazenet.net PS : I am attempting to get access to the Sunbury Daily also. I'll let you all know if this happens.

    3. Greetings, I found an old letter that stated my great grandfather Ziegler "lived on Allegheny Hill on the Susquehanna River." I know he lived in Chapman Township of Union/Snyder County from 1850-1870. Is anyone familiar with this site and able to describe where it specifically located? Blessings, Brad Ziegler

    3. There's a three part architectura; series of brochures put out byBucknell University, the Lewisburg Business and Professional Association, and the Union County Historical Society focusing on particular periods in the county's history when the greatestconcentration of new buildings was constructed in particular towns. They're titled (1)New Berlin/ the Early Years 1800-1855; (2) Lewisburg/ The Middle Years 1840-1880; and Mifflinburg/ The Late Years 1865-1900. What they have to say in the Lewisburg brochure about the Kline Hotel is this "136 Market Street: First known as Kline's Hotel in the 1830's, the Mount Vernon=type portico was added in 1938. Between 1831-1900 every Pennsylvania Governor slept here". Roy Kline, Jr. Bob & Jerri Saunders wrote: > > Can anybody on the list provide details about Kline's Hotel in Lewisburg? 3. There is a hotel in Lewisburg called the Lewisburg Hotel. I'm not sure if that is the same as the one you speak of. I have a newspaper article from a scrapbook/photo album owned by my grandmother; I'm borrowing it to scan old photos. She used to work at the Lewisburg Hotel. The article states that the Hotel was built in 1834 and was called the Revere House. It is located on Market Street about 2 blocks from the Susquehanna River bridge. If this happens to be the same place, let me know and I will tell you what I can from the article. Thanks!
