Does this look familiar at all? I am descended from Benjamin Franklin SMITH, born ca 1859 (supposedly in Turbotville PA) and Emma Caroline WINEGARDNER. They lived in East Buffalo Township, Union Co. PA for most of their married lives, but they may have been married in the Turbotville area. I just don't know much about them. I'd love to know who Benjamin's parents were. Their children were: Mary Elizabeth b ca 1881 Rachel Jane "Jenny" b 1884, m. Jacob BRIDGE Ruth Anna b 1887, m. Samuel McCULLUM Margaret Ellen b 1889 William Henry b. 1890-1894 (living in Pittsburgh ca 1919) Katie May "May" b. 1895 Hilda Marie b. 1897 m/1 Paul Clifford SNYDER m/2 George W. RENNER Unfortunately, Benjamin was jailed in 1898 in Philadelphia, then transferred to the Danville State Hospital in 1902. I assume he died there, but I haven't been able to find out if this is true. I appreciate any help you can give. This family has been very tough to research! Vickie Elam White
Danielle, Regarding finding a newspaper. There is a Newspapers Section at the state library of PA where I have had tremendous success getting help. Send them an SASE and tell them what you are looking for and they will send you the name of the paper and a film identification (if they have it) which you can order through your own public library on interlibrary loan. (This service here costs $5.00.) The address: Commonwealth Libraries, PA Department of Education, Attn: Richard J. Hill, Newspapers Librarian, P. O. Box 1601, Harrisburg, PA 17105-1601. Good luck with your search. Margery Borger, Sacramento, Calif.
Hi Everyone! Last week I got into a conversation on the Virginia Roots list about the circuit-riding preacher, Lorenzo Dow. Lots of us have a Lorenzo Dow 'Somebody' in our data. Since I have a lot of information about the 'original' Lorenzo Dow, they asked if I would post a web page about him. Well, I ran home from work that night and put up the Lorenzo Dow page after supper! I hope you find it interesting. He was something! I can just see him jumping out of a church window onto a horse and riding away shouting that he would be back one year from the day! He did, too! The site is: http://www.acun.com/dentons The link to the article about Lorenzo Dow is about half way down the first page. There may be a few typos from the scanning process. I was in kind of a hurry and will fix them tonight. I hope you enjoy the stories! Blessings! Sue Montgomery-Cook

Hello, I would like to contact anyone on the list who will be visiting the Union County Historical Society at Lewisburg in the near future. Could you please look at the "HIPPLE Family" genealogy and furnish me the name and address of the person who submitted it? Living in California it is impossible for me to do this in person. The Union County Genweb Homepages, "Family Genealogies that can be used in our office," lists such a genealogy, so I"m hoping there is someone to contact. I have collected a huge amount of Hipple Information and am anxious to share information and compare notes. Thank you sincerely, Margery Borger, Sacramento, CA
He was b. in Union Town, PA 1832. He migrated to Harrison Cty, WVA where he m. Cathering Brockmire b. 1832 in Fairmont, WVA. His parents may have migrated from Sct. Any into will be appreciated. Nelle
Hello, I have just begun researching in Union County and see on the rootsweb page that the Historical Society lists the HIPPLE Family, among "Family Genealogies that can be used in our office." Is someone on the list familiar with this Hipple genealogy? I am looking for any information on John Hipple, b 5 Sept 1798, who married Catherine Dubs, b 5 Jan 1802. Does the Hipple Genealogy list any such names? John Hipple was in the Landisburg (Perry Co, PA) Infantry in 1814 but before that I have been unable to determine his whereabouts or parents. He was the brother-in-law of Mary Dubs from Union County so presumably wife Catherine was likewise from Union County. I would very much appreciate hearing from anyone familiar with either the Hipple or Dubs names associated with Union County. Sincerely, Margery Borger, Sacramento, CA
Thanks to a Death Record and an obituary I now know the parents of Dillman Worley, my great grandfather (b. 23 Jan 1845 - d. 13 May 1913). His Death record lists his father as Levi Worley (b. abt Mar 1817 - d. 23 May 1902) and his mother as Katherine Heinslaig (?). Dillman's obituary states that he was born in Lewisburg, Mifflin County PA and moved as a young man to Reading. (I have learned that there may be a problem - Lewisburg is in Union County, in Mifflin County the town is Lewistown!?!) It also states that he was survived by, amoung others, his aged mother Mary Worley (b. abt 1822 - d. 28 Jan 1914), and a step sister Mrs. Jenie Yeager. Both Levi and Mary Worley died in Reading and are buried in Trinity Cemetery. Does any of this sound familier?
