    1. ROTE - COLPETZER - perhaps BENFER
    2. Phyllis Rickard
    3. Hello. I just subscribed to the Union and Northumberland county lists. Not sure which will help the most. Most of the time when my families were there, it was Northumberland, but it became Union before they left. Am researching Adam COLPETZER (multitudes of spellings), Rev. War soldier, who married Esther ROTE, daughter of George ROTE who layed out a town site which joined with another town site and is now Mifflinburg, Union Co, PA. Adam's and Esther's son, George COLBETZER, b. 9 June 1785 PA, d. 23 Jun 1857 in Medina Co, Ohio, (aka George C. BETZER) is my ancestor. Would like to find evidence of George's marriage to a woman who died ca1831 (son born in 1827 states that his mother died when he was 4 yrs old). Possible name for her could be Mary BENFER. George followed his sons to Medina Co, Ohio. A brother was nearby in Wayne Co, OH. Sons moved on to Michigan and Indiana. One son stayed in Medina Co. Anyone else researching these families?? 2. Marcia Mulligan Bertelson
    3. Good Evening List, I am researching the Donachy name in Lewisburg--in particular Thomas M. b. 1822, but probably all Donachys as I feel they were most likely related. Thomas was a shoemaker. Also looking for Slifer/Slypher and Shamp/Schamp. There is some question among my fellow researchers as to whether Thomas married Mary Schamp or a Mary Slypher. Does anyone know if church records from Lewisburg are accessible? We have been deadended on this family for 10 years---that is going back before Thomas. We have a great deal on his descendants. Would really love to determine his father and where he came from. Marcia in Washington, Pa.

    3. The turnpike that the book is referring to is Rte. 45 West between Lewisburg and Mifflinburg. It was an old turnpike with a tollbooth at the river on Market St. Lewisburg. There are a few schoolhouses along the way which are now used by the Amish. The trouble is determining which one the book is referring to. As far as the farmhouse goes, that's easy. It's the first farm past Forest Hill on the right. Forest Hill is just a blink. If you're driving West on 192, you'll see a cemetery on your right and a little service station. This is the heart of Forest Hill, continue on, and the farmhouse is on your right. Yes, it is worth having the Historical Society do an hour's research for $25, as long as you've narrowed your search. The society does not appreciate queries such as: Looking for the Brown family of Lewisburg. If you can provide enough information, however, which you seem to have, they'll gather as much as they can. AND, just cause they say "one hour" doesn't mean they stop when a bell goes off. They can look up deeds, wills, marriages, births, deaths, pension records, etc., it's quite a resource. Hope this helped, and to all Union County Researchers, Happy Holidays.
