    1. Union County Townships
    2. Jim Walton
    3. I have been presented with some birth information (not orignal documentation) that states the birth place of the person I am researching as follows: Born 23 May 1802, Limestone Township, Union Co. My investigation leads me to believe that the person who supplied this information, although with the best of intentions, has described the plce of birth as it NOW exists. Am I correct in saying that in 1802 the correct township would be Buffalo Township, as I believe that Limestone was formed from part of Buffalo at a much later date? I am already sure the County should have been stated as Northumberland, since Union was formed from Northumberland in 1813. Also, am I correct in saying that New Berlin is located in Limestone Township? Thank you for your assistance. Jim

    1. John Kline
    2. Ken Boonie
    3. The 1850 PA census for Union County, West Beaver twp. lists John Kline, age 69, occupation as a farmer. In the household is Rebecca Kline, age 24 and Samuel Kline, age 19. No spouse is listed, and I believe Mary to be his spouse. The listing is located below the Peter Hoffman family, who I believe is the brother of Polly (Hoffman) Kline, married to George Kline, who was the son of John, and directly below the listing for George and Polly Kline. I think that Polly and Peter were brother and sisters. I have information on the line from this point on and am willing to share what I have. Does anybody know of this line, and if so the maiden name of Mary along with her birth/death dates? Thanks in advance. -- Ken Boonie Coordinator USGenWeb Project Huntingdon County PA http://www.rootsweb.com/~pahuntin/

    2. Marcia Mulligan Bertelson
    3. Dear Barbara, I checked out the book(s) Carter Cousins today at the Citizens Library. Tried to be as thorough as possible but must report I drew a blank. Not one Daniel mentioned in the entire genealogy and it seems that no one from this line went to eastern Pa. The family starts in 1681 ---James Carter and Susannah Griffith, Quakers of Bucks Co.,Pa. There were some who eventually moved to Washington Co., Pa. and then on th Oh., Ind., Ia. Ok. The rest of those who left Bucks Co. went to Maryland, Virginia(Frederick, Orange and Loudon Cos.) South Carolina and N.J. Sorry, I was hoping I could help. Marcia

    3. In checking out the Union Co. Historical Society's web page I noticed the name Shamp in their list of family histories. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to get a copy ----or have a lookup done? I am trying to determine if a Mary Ellen Shamp was married to a Thomas M. Donachy in Lewisburg? Thanks. 1. KEISTER 1700's Hartley Twp
    2. Jack & Jo Kester
    3. I am new to this List and looking for information on a Keister Cemetery in Hartley Twp. I have read there is a will made by George or John George KEISTER in which he provided for the erection of a school house on his place. It was known as Keister School House. A burying ground is attached to this area where many old settlers are buried. This is probably known as the Keister Cemetery . Peter Keister, a son or brother of George Keister, was known to live in Hazleton on Col Thomas Hartley Lands. Looking forward to hearing from you. Jo Kester kester@saber.udayton.edu

Talk about > frustration! ////////////////////////////////////// One cannot obtain reference books on interlibrary loan, but you can get pages copied from reference books through public interlibrary loan. Just ask for copies of the pages listed for a surname in the index. If there is no index, better forget it! Also if you ask for too many pages to be copied at once, you may run into copywrite infringement problems. You probably will be asked to set an upper limit of what you will be willing to pay for copied pages. Any charges are set by the library which holds the book and which will do the copying, not by the requesting library. Library policies on charging are widely varied. I have found that I seldom get any charges assessed for under 15-20 pages copied from reference works. Nels

    3. Marcia, I noticed you live in Washington, PA. Is that the town where the Citizens Public Library is located? If it s, that library has a book entitled CARTER COUSINS by M. Eberle. I've tried to get it through interlibrary loan but was told genealogy books can't go out. Talk about frustration! This is a bit much to ask, but if you are ever there with a few spare moments (Ha!), I wonder if you could check something for me. I'm interested in two things: 1. Any Carter who migrated from Bucks Co. into Northampton, Schuylkill, Montgomery, Columbia County or actually any eastern PA county between 1775 and 1810. 2. Any mention of a Daniel Carter being born in 1806. Thanks in advance for anything you feel you have time or interest in doing. BarbaraB

The New Berlin Cemetery more or less defines the town's boundary in the northwest quarter of town. It can be seen from the main east-west street by looking toward the north. There was a woman living in a house near the southeast corner of the cemetery who was able to look up the locations of graves, and she pointed out to me the one I wanted to find. I regret I cannot remember her name, but I contacted her by asking at a nearby gas station and the workers there told me to call this lady on their office phone. I made arrangements over the phone and she met me at the graveyard entrance a few minutes later. I am sure anyone living near the cemetery entrance will know how to find this woman who has the information you will need, that is if things are the same now as they were five years ago. I gained the impression that everyone was inclined to be very kindly and helpful and that the people living there generally prefer to keep things the way they are in their town! I hope things go as well for you as they did for me years ago! Nelson R. Sulouff

Sorry I don't know more. > Marcia in Washington, Pa. ///////////////////////////////////////// To coat-tail on what Marcia has offered, let me add that about six years ago I found the Union Co. Historical Soc. located in a small office within the county courthouse. Union Co. was taken off of Northumberland Co. in 1813, so records for persons living in the area of Union Co. before 1813 will be found in Northumberland Co., except that before 1772 you may find some of their ancestors' records also in Cumberland and Berks Counties. County seat for Northumberland Co. is Sunbury. The college located in Selinsgrove, Snyder Co., is Susquehanna College. Snyder Co. was taken off of Union Co. in 1855, so all those people living in the southern half of Union Co. before 1855 will have legal papers filed in Snyder Co. after 1855. Selinsgrove is county seat for Snyder Co. Another research tip is that a large number of residents from Union Co. resettled in Clarion Co., which was formed in 1839. The county seat is Clarion. 2. I am looking for information concerning the family of Jacob Kreider m Catherine Musselman who died in Snyder Co in 1854. His son Isaac M.Kreider m Magdalina Garmon and lived in Selin's Grove, then moved to South Bend, Indiana around 1865 changing the spelling of the surname to Kryder. I am interested in information about these families as I have no information that goes back beyond this. Second, I am planning a genealogy trip to Union and Snyder Counties in March and would appreciate information about where to begin doing research in the area. Also is there a central place to stay and what other things should I plan to see while in the area? I will be driving from Wisconsin. Thank you for any and all assistance.
