Hello Marilyn and Dan Devaney: By any chance did this young John come down into Tennessee at any time that you have found? I have a Patterson family that has a Mother but no father. Many of us have tried to find out what his name was. It is possible that his name was John as his own son was named James but his first born son, who was my ggrandfather, was named John Wesley and went by the name of "Jackie". Even buried as Jackie. His oldest who signed the funeral records did not know his name was John Wesley and buried him as Jackson Wesley. Strange, huh. This Patterson family was living in Lincoln County, Tennessee in 1850. His wife's name was Nancy and she was born in North Carolina. The age of your young John would be about right. Good Luck.
