Milam co. Mailing list, you may ask why send san augustine co. data to milam list? ANSWER: because all the family that connected to these two boys and to one of the wives was iN MILAM CO. TX. moved to Texas, first to san augustine and then Milam and surrounding areas, Bandera, Burleson, Falls, Williamson, Leon, Sabine, from alabama before 1860 and died here in Milam co. tx.. ---------------- Anne, we have the documents to show that james n. patterson objected to the military having his name listed as james m. and it was changed by the clerk on the roll call record--at the bottom for comments. . WE have a copy of the clerks note on the roll call cardtelling of the objection and making the correction-however we do not know what the 'n' stands for?. We know the boys both died..we have the military documents showing their enlistment and their deaths and the dates and causes. We have the paymaster letters and the records given to the lawyer who came to collect the dead patterson boys, pay for his widow.(CSA) We know they married and the names they used, we have the marriage copies of records from clerk in san augustine, tex..1860--two marriages, same day, same year, same month...a double wedding of a sister and a bro to a brother and a sister. we have the census for 1850 for the dodd family and the patterson family...we do not know whay james n. was called by another name.?? we do know that the family researchers consider them the same boy. Multiple names were not uncommon, we have one girl called: Amelia Louisa jane dodd bowen..she married D.A. Bowen in milam , birthed a baby, died in the effort and the child was raised in milam and was in the household of her granny and uncle louis taylor dodd in bandera co. in 1880 and in milam by 1885. This same young woman who's momma died in childbed, married in milam co. to her first cousin, charles madison grabener and she also died in childbed. The little baby died also within two years. sadly. The mary bowen grabener and her son are buried and marked in the hurt graham cemetery in old sand grove...CAVE section of the cemetery in the CAVE family plots. Henry CAVE was brother to amelia bowens momma and her uncle. He was great grand uncle to the woman mary bowen grabener and permission to bury her and her little baby was most probably given by nancy BASS cave, wife of Henry CAVE. MY husband has a ggg granny with the name : Sarah elender carline pennyless angeline (PACK)taylor.(they called her "ellen") Married in tennessee-/dekalb co. in 1869 to james Andrew taylor....and they named a child TENNESSEE RACHAEL TAYLOR GULLETT. I checked with OKLA for a death certif for rachael gullett and no such animal???...I wrote for r.gullett???, I wrote for R.T. Gullett???, I wrote for mrs. joseph crockett gullett???, no such animal????, finally, I tried tennessee rachael taylor gullett and they sent it to me...ha..sorry, I just get on a roll.grin. WE do have the census showing the dodd patterson, son, child living with his grandparents patterson, in 1870 st. landrys parish, LA. --no matter why he is there??..he is just there. I do NOT h ave the marriage record of the rougeau marriage but have the family researchers tell me that they do have such.--I should try to get his out of rapides parish. The lady is on the census. ------- as a side note, there is a teacher married to a rougeau man in Louisiana who has a web site for her students. I found her on google.com search on that name. I wrote her and she said her husbands people were from Rapides parish and were still there. SHE was going to ask them some questions for me...I have NOT heard back from her. ------------- Some of this data on the patterson soldier and the dodd soldier we know for certain...we have the documents. there is a college in texas in austin who has an extensive library on confederate records..and we mailed a questionaire and they sent the records. also, the lists of the soldiers on the death lists and burial lists of camp rondo, ark, are on line. the government put up a marker on the common grave of the young men who died of disease, hundreds of them. ---so, what we say, we can prove. Our Questions--we guess at. we do NOT know what happened to the girls???..the widows??...and I DO think that patterson marcella is the patterson dodd girl??...but again using the patterson name in sabine.??..unless the patterson boy married a girl the same age and name as his sister? well, I am open for suggestions. I don't have the documents scanned..but can do so if you need them? Its been my experience that the scanned documents come out sorta grey..I probably don't know the equiptment.......any ideas on the widows? thanks to the good people of Milam, to the DODD family who still lives in that county,The Grabener Families, and the Patterson family of TX and Louisiana. sincerely, judy hugg grimes, yorba linda ca.
