    1. [PATTERSON-L] William Paterson, b. 1837, Scotland
    2. Seth and/or BJ Hinshaw
    3. I would be interested in contacting any descendants of the family below. I have listed what I know about them. Last week, over my Christmas visit to my family, a cousin and I -- the only ones in the family who have any interest in this genealogy stuff ;-) -- were going over a letter from a much older (91yo) cousin of my father's and it became clear that some of the family members below must have immigrated to North America (probably to the US). We have found the family in the 1881 census in Scotland but no trace of them in the 1891 census, so we think they probably migrated during that time period. Any help appreciated, BJ Hinshaw William Paterson (b. 1837, Edinburgh, Scotland, son of William Paterson and Charlotte Brown) m. 1 Jun 1860 in Stirling, Scotland to Jacobina Isabella Bain Ralston (usually called Isabella) (b. 1840 in Stirling, daughter of James Ralston and Christina Bain) They had nine children. If William and Isabella did immigrate, they were probably accompanied by some or all of the children who are not noted as having stayed in Scotland. 1) Christina b. about 1860 2) Charlotte b. 20 Feb 1862 in Edinburgh m. Peter McGee--stayed in Scotland Their children:Isabella 1884 (m. Alex Paterson), immigrated to Canada; James 1885 (m. Georgina Mearns), immigrated to Australia; Margaret 1887 (d. young); William 1890 (m. Edith Hutton) stayed in Scotland; Peter 1891 (d. young); Edward 1894 (m. Margaret Arthur) SCT>CAN>US; John 1895 (m. Margaret Govier) SCT>CAN; David 1897 (m. Thelma) SCT>CAN; Frank 1899 (m. Thelma, his brother's widow) SCT>CAN 3) Helen b. 1864 (called Nellie), m. John Adam--stayed in Scotland. Their sons were Clarence, Gordon, Douglas, and Cecil Adam. They also had 2 daughters: Verna and Bella 4) William b. 1866 5) Isabella b. 1869 (called Bella)m. & stayed in Scotland 6) Johanna b. 1871 7) Jeminima b. 1873 8) Margaret b. 1876 9) Sophia b. 1879 We think one of the girls died as a young child. Three definitely stayed in Scotland (Charlotte, Helen/Nellie & Isabella/Bella). We do not know what happened to the others. From the older cousin's letters, we think that one of the girls (probably Johanna or Jeminima) was called Jessie. Jessie had a daughter Carol, who visited the family in Scotland, according to what my cousin remembers.
