Abstract of will located with Lancaster Historical Society, Lancaster, PA done by Jo Ann Patterson Baxley ([email protected]) Sept 1998 Abstract of Arthur Patterson Will Book R Vol 1 p. 183 25 Dec 1835 Raphoe Township Lancaster Co. Item: Plantation containing 238 acres shall be farmed for the use of my estate for five years from the first of April by my son William with the aid and assistance of my other children, all of them to live and be maintained and schooled out of the proceeds... and my household furniture and farming utensils are to be used by my son William and my other children during said term. Item: As soon after the expiration of the said term, seven men shall be appointed by my executors and children and their guardians to divide my plantation as they think proper: at which valuation my sons shall have right to choose and accept any parts thereof. If in case the premises or any part are not acceptable, I direct my executors to sell it as soon as advantageously can be done and make good the same. Item: My property in East Donegal and Mountjoy townships shall be let for the use of my estate for three years from the first of April and until the same be sold and I direct as soon as my executors consider it expedient after the expiration of said three years they shall sell the same and deliver good titles to the purchasers. Item: My son William shall receive one hundred dollars per annum for his services since he attained the age of twenty-one years and the same annual compensation for his services in farming my land after my death as directed. Item: The expense of education of any of my children beyond a common english education shall be charged to them respectively. My executors shall have the right to advance any of my children such sums on accounts of their shares in my estate at their discretion. Item: In case Catherine Oberly, the mother of my children remains here with them during the said five years, I direct my executors to pay her at he expiration of that time six hundred dollars which I bequeath to her. I also bequeath to her as long as she remain single and unmarried and no longer after the expiration of said five years the annual legal interest of seventeen hundred dollars to be loaned or invested by my executors for that purpose: or they may charge it upon any part of my real estate if they see proper. And at the death or marriage of the said Catherine Oberly I give and bequeath the same as herein after mentioned. Which bequests to said Catherine I make upon condition that she be allowed no other claim against my estate. Item: As to the remainder, from the rest, I do give and bequeath the same to my six children: William Patterson, Jane Patterson, Alexander Patterson, Elizabeth Patterson, Douglas Patterson and Arthur Patterson their heirs and assigns in equal shares and parts. I appoint William Patterson and my kinsman Samuel Smith Patterson of Raphoe Township and the survivor of them to be the executors of this my last will and testament.
