Fellow Patterson Researchers: I have a puzzle that I hope some of you can help me with. In the 1850 Lincoln County, Tennessee Census there is the following: George Kirkland 22 TN Susan 21 Jasper G. 1 James Patterson 27 TN Martha 25 John W. 4 Mary 2 Nancy J. 4 mo. Nancy (Mother) 51 NC Thomas Harris 11 George 10 Nancy A. 8 My question is this. I have found evidence that leads me to believe that George Kirkland married Susan Patterson a sister to James. James Patterson is also a son of Mother, Nancy. I have a feeling that these Harris children are children of a dead daughter. Have any of you Pattersons out there done any research on this family? There are several Pattersons in Lincoln County at this time but most of them were more prominent that I think these might have been. What happened to James' father and who was he? Were there other siblings of James? I do know there is one son not listed to James and Martha and his name is Steve Patterson. He married Rebeca Lewis a sister to the Eliza Jane Lewis that John Jackson Wesley Patterson married. I am hoping to receive help from some of you. I am tied down with a Mother who has had a broken hip and has Alzheimers. So I can't go to the library and run this family down. I think this James Patterson to be my gggrandfather but I need to be sure. Without some further information I don't think I can be sure. Maybe I had better explain why I am wondering about this man. The John W. is John Wesley Jackson Patterson b1846 and died 1934. His mother, Martha, lived with him the rest of her life. He lived on a fairly large farm in what became Moore County, Tn. apparently on land left him by his father. He never did anything but breed horses so the family is pretty sure he did not make enough money to pay for a farm its size. Also John Jackson Wesley was buried as Jackson Wesley. He was never known by anythng other than Jackie. The census records all say John and this one says John W. Too many unanswered questions. I hope some of you have researched this family and will share your research with you. I will be glad to share anything I have in return. Thank you for your effort in my behalf. Delores Phillips Sisco
