Dear N. J. in MI: I have started putting together who I think are the children on William Patterson of Mercer Co, KY. I believe he might be the father of my Johnathan Patterson who married Rebecca Lapoun (Lafoun, Lavon, LaPhawn) 3 Oct, 1805 in Mercer Co. William was surety for Johnathan. I did some research in Frankfort, KY last year and found as you did that Wm. shows up in the 1800 census (first showing in tax records also). I found him in tax records from 1800-1803. I found no Pattersons for 1804 and the Armstead shows in 1805 alone. In 1806, Wm., Jonathan, and Armstead. In 1807, Wm., Goldman, John, and Armstead. In 1808, John, Goldman, Armstead, and Joseph. In 1809, Armstead, Goldman, John and William. In 1810, William, Armstead, William, Joseph, Goldman and John, etc. I have not found a will for William, but I have assumed (hopefully to be proven OR disproven) that William Sr. had sons Armstead, Johnathan, Goldman, Joseph, and William. I'm sorry to say I have not had a chance to get into the Mercer Co. marriages. If William is the father of my Johnathan, then some info on Johnathan brother in "Perrins History of Kentucky" says William was a revelutionary war soldier under Gen. Washington and was from PA. I don't have any additional info on this family and have not found anything additional about Wm. Laura [email protected]
