    1. [PATTERSON] texas- dodd/patterson son-found in LA. 1870 -lost again
    2. Hello Wes, I am of the DODD family that is looking for the son of james N.Patterson and louisa marcella dodd patterson-married san augustine co. tx. 1860, sept 27. The child of one of these marriages, (james M. Patterson) was born in texas in 1862 and he is found- on -census- located in st. landrys parish in 1870 age 8 , and ALSO FOUND in 1880----- living with grandparents, Pleasant Patterson and Charity Patterson. HE was 18 in 1880. I understand the ward is ward 6 of st landrys parish, LA? Mary ann patterson ashmore grabener self was living close by, I believe. (aunt of the patterson boy). HE also had an aunt elizabeth synthia DODD grabener who was sister -in -law to mary and his aunt by connection of being his mother's natural sister. Did you find this 1880 census on your CD? DO you think he high -tailed it to ERATH co. and was enumerated there the same year? St. Landrys parish was enumerated in june, I understand. WE are now looking for a marriage in the LA area for james M. patterson and any bride. Another family researcher found the Erath listing, same one that you kindly sent, --and yes the birth date is right on. I have not followed through with your suggestion to check familys close by--but will do so as that is good logic and I have also found it to happen before. thanks for that suggestion and the sending of the erath connection. The dodd family has connections to erath--by way of the HAIRSTON family and the KITE familys. (cave-dodd-collins-pounds), so it is not crazy to think he may have gone there. However, we do not know that name that is with him on the census...its a new one to us, both dodd and patterson familys know nothing of that name,"FIDCOCK". ---------------------- When you purchase that census? did you get an index? I wouldn't mind that purchase...if it was indexed. Do you mind me asking w hat company you purchased it from? ---------------------- Matters become confusing when you know that her brother was also named: james M. DODD and he married Malissa E. (OR C.) patterson -same day and same place and same year as the other patterson/ dodd marriage. 1. WE don't know what happened to the two james's grooms. 2. WE don't know what happened to the two malissa or Marcella's brides. 3. DID the war" eat" those young men? 4. What happened to the women? 5. After loosing her child--where did the DODD/ Patterson girl go? Somewhere she was bound to contact the DODD family--as that is the family + who had the legend of the child who was purloined by his grandparents ,just as the civil war started, reasons or explanations, unknown. 4. What happened to the Patterson/DODD wife? WE have not found them alive after 1860--any of the four. The weddings: JAMES M. DODD wed MALISSA e.PATTERSON in San Augustine co. tx. sept 27 1860. JAMES N. PATTERSON wed Marcella DODD in San Augustine co. tx. sept 27 1860 -a double ceremony. -------------- The DODD family shows none of these patterson/ dodd marriages, living with DODD family in 1870. IT is as they just disappeared. However, I can not find lewis autry and wife lucy ann dodd autry, (mother to the two dodd kids who married the two patterson kids) in 1870 in a texas census. Does any list members have an index for 1870 texas+ that would list a head of household by the name of Lewis Autry? ------------- The DODD grandma was in San augustine co. or Bandera co. in 1870 we think?. She married a man name of lewis Autry in 1870 in Burleson co. tx. ....we have not found them on a census for 1870. BY 1880 she is in bandera co. tx. listed again, as lucy ann dodd...?unknown what happened to her husband? HER daughter-the dodd/patterson wife, could have come to live with mom-but what happened to the patterson husband, the dodd husband and the patterson/dodd wife.?? MYSTERIES. MY DEAR SHERLOCK---the games, afoot. Lucy ANN CAVE DODD Autry--came to MILAM co. TEXAS, sometime after 1885 ish with her son, louis taylor dodd and his wife, victoria asenath collins dodd and their children...THERE was no daughter of hers or sister of his, living with them....that is known. --------------------- Somewhere in Louisiana, Texas or possibly, Okla or Ark, there is a PATTERSON family who has some story of a grandfather who was raised by his grandparents in Louisiana? Maybe there is a story of a uncle who was killed by a horse-kicked in the chest? Or an uncle who went to war and came home and gave all the family the measles? What of the young mans parents? War, pestilence, poverty, personality clashes? NORTH-versus-SOUTH ideas? IT seems to me--that this young man born in 1862 would be of age: 8 in 1870: 18 in 1880: 28 in 1890: 38 in 1900 and 48 in 1910 and 58 in 1920 and 68 in 1930! ....somewhere there is an older patterson grandchild or great grandchild, STILL ALIVE WHO MAY KNOW what happened to these people??. Anyone have a James M. Patterson born 1862, in your lineages? He may have been told he was an orphan. Unknown. HE may not have known he was born in Texas either in San Augustine co. or Sabine co. tx. 1862, and consider himself a Louisiana man. HE most certainly did not know his father or mother. SOMEWHERE, there is a PATTERSON family with a brick wall that they can't get past and we are just on the other side. OR: Somewhere there is a DODD story--a grandmother who may have remarried and told the grandchildren, of her first husband who was dead for some unknown sad reason and her child was raised by his grandparents and she did not know where he was --all of her life AND his.? BOTH , sides of this story-- is sad and lonely and left its mark on lives--over a hundred and forty +plus years. WHERE ARE THE LIVING DESCENDANTS THAT KNOW THE ANSWERS? thanks again to wes and thanks to the patterson/ DODD list for the help of the hardworking and thoughtful patterson familys. sincerely, judy hugg grimes, yorba linda, ca.

    3. Judy, You can by the 1880 US census on CDs at http://www.familysearch.org/ and look for the 1880 Census link on the left side of the page. It's actually $49 for the 55 CDs. 20 of the 55 cds is the Index itself. It has been a tremendous help for me in just the short amount of time I've had them.
