    1. [PATTERSON] Robert, James and John Patterson of Eldersville, PA
    2. John Patterson
    3. Many of you have suffered the many queries that I have sent over the past 5 years seeking information about William Patterson and Nancy McCready of Brooke County, WV and Eldersville, PA. The generous responses many of you have sent led to final discovery that has nearly verified the origins of William. The house of William's birth (rcvd from my aunt Martena Kessel) was identified by Eldersville residents as the home of James and John Patterson of Bethel Ridge; later the homestead of Hugh Patterson. As I was fairly sure that John and Jane Patterson had sons Francis and William and since Francis and William are buried at St. John's Graveyard the pieces fell into place. My most recent estimate of this little known family line (compared to the well known Patterson line of Cross Creek and Lancaster) is below. I am now seeking to verify the place of origin of this Patterson line. And I am seeking information that would confirm or deny my guess that this line is from county Donegal; and hence of the line of Pattersons/Paterson who moved from Ayreshire, Scotland to Raphoe Barony when James I granted lands to John and James Cuningham about 1608. 1. JAMES PATTERSON b. abt 1725; prosperous landowner of County Donegal. Note 1: This paternal relationship is deduced from the Armstrong County background of Woodward Patterson Brown of Kittanning, Pennsylvania who is a descendant of David Patterson (some of the specifics in this write up indicate errors in either my assumptions or the write up itself). Note 2: The relationship of Robert and/or Elizabeth to James and John is an assumption based upon the closeness of my great-great grandfather (William, son of John & Jane of Bethel Ridge) to the children of Robert and Elizabeth Patterson. I believe that either Robert or Elizabeth was a sibling of James and John; the other being their cousin. Children of James Patterson: i.
