    3. I have a document re: John Patterson. It is too dim and too large to copy. It is about 12" wide and 22" high - and it is framed. It is written by hand (of course) and reads as follows: Virginia Norfolk Borough At a quarterly session Court continued and held the 28th day of March 1805. It appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that John Patterson late of Ireland in the Kingdom of Great Britain has resided within the Jurisdiction of the United States for five years and for one year within this State, and he making oath that he will support the Constitution of the United States, and absolutely and entirely renounce all allegiance and fidelity to any Foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever, particularly the King of Great Britain; and moreover appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that he has behaved himself as a man of good moral character, attached to the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same, the said John Patterson is thereupon admitted to become a citizen. I think this to be the John Patterson that married Rebecca Troutman, and who had a son named James Patterson who married Permelia Mattling. The only dates I have on these four people are on Permelia Mattling b.1824 d.1898. James and Permelia lived in Grayson County, KY, and he is my great-great grandfather. They had eight children. If you have the dates on John Patterson and wife, or their son James (or other children unknown to me) or other information about John Patterson, please let me know.
