    1. [PATTERSON] Help: Pattersons ca. 1860 of southern Iowa/northern Missouri
    2. Robert J. Powell
    3. Hi Patterson researchers, I'm looking for a Patterson-Douglas line that seems to have been in Van Buren County, Iowa during the 1860s. My-g-g-grandfather was James W. Douglas (1861-1926). According to a biography of James he was born July 19, 1861 in Van Buren County, Iowa to a Henry Douglas and Mary (Patterson). Around 1874 this family moved south to Sullivan County, Missouri, and they seem to have made the move with other Douglases and Pattersons. James Douglas's father Henry Douglas seems to have moved back to Iowa by 1908, but his mother Mary Patterson Douglas remained in Missouri with him. That's all I know about James's family, and I haven't been able to find them in the 1860 or 1870 Census indexes-- and I haven't been able to find his father 'Henry' (according to the bio) anywhere at all. Presumably, they are in Van Buren County somewhere, at least between 1860 and 1870. I also don't know anything about the Van Buren Co. Pattersons (where James's mother) comes from. They seem to have been a Kentucky family before that, but I'm not sure. This has been a big brick wall for me. If anyone recognizes any of the above or the Douglas/Patterson families I would love to hear from you. I have many Patterson relatives from Missouri and a bit more information (and some photos) on the Patterson line if anyone is interested. Thanks in advance! Robert J. Powell rjpowell72@yahoo.co.uk

    1. [PATTERSON] 1880 Towns Co., Ga census
    2. Wes Patterson
    3. Does anyone on the list(s) have access to the 1880 Towns Co., Ga census? I've been searching for two families for years to see where they were in 1880, but to no avail. I now feel they MAY have been in Towns Co., Ga. I'm looking for John Tyler FRANKS, age 19. He was born in 1861, most likely in Macon Co., NC. But he isn't there in 1880. He and his 1st wife had their first child in 1883, apparently in Towns Co., Ga. The daughter's name was Mary Virginia "Mollie" Franks. John T. Franks' 1st wife was named Ollie or Mollie ENGLAND. All I know about Mollie England Franks is that she died somewhere around the late 1880s. I now feel she may have grown up in Towns Co., Ga or that area. If you can find any ENGLAND family in 1880 with a daughter named Mollie or Mary age approximately 17 to 19, I would appreciate it. And also John Tyler Franks may have been there by then. I guess it's even possible that they may have been married by 1880, so don't count that out.... John and Mollie Franks, newlyweds. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it!!!!! His wife and children appear on the census records (1860)but he does not. Subsequent census records do not show him but additional children do. If anyone has any information on this Patterson line, it would be greatly appreciated. Bruce Reed

    3. Hello list, I know it has been since February since my last web page update, but I have finally gotten around to it. It seems to work better under Netscape and I don't know if that is due to my own computer or if it applies to most. However, the tree is searchable under either as it is text. 1. [PATTERSON] Patersons from the 1881 census
    2. Rosalind Paterson
    3. Hello List, Here are four households containg Patersons, which I've recently extracted from the 1881 census; does anyone else have a connection with these Patersons ? First; - 111, Raploch Street, Dalserf, Lanarkshire James Patterson, 53, born Dalzell (I don't seem to have recorded his occupation) Mary Patterson, wife, 51, born Bothwell William Patterson, son, unmarried, 22, Engine keeper, born Cam[bus?]nethan, Lanarkshire Mary Patterson, daughter, unmarried, 19, Domestic servant, born Cam[bus?]nethan, Lanarkshire Marion Patterson, daughter, unmarried, 14, Domestic servant, born Cam[bus?]nethan, Lanarkshire I believe that James' birthplace should read "Dalziel" and that he is the son of William Paterson and his wife Margaret (formerly BROWNLEE), who were married in Dalziel in 1823. William and Margaret also had a son named Robert, who is my husband's great-great-grandfather. Second; - 28, India Street, Edinburgh St Stephens Alexr RAMAGE, 55, Teacher of literature, born Edinburgh Agnes RAMAGE, 60, sister, born Edinburgh Helen Paterson, 25, unmarried, General servant, born Uphall It is just possible that this Helen Paterson may be the daughter of the Robert Paterson I mentioned above, and his wife Elisabeth (formerly GLEN). Robert and Elisabeth had a daughter Helen in Bathgate, W Lothian in 1852. In 1881, Robert and Elisabeth were living in Uphall. Does anyone else know anything about the Helen who was employed by the Ramages ? Third; - Kirknewton & E Calder, Edinburgh Peter Paterson, 24, Foreman quarryman, born Bathgate Margaret Paterson, wife, 21, born Whitburn, Linlithgowshire Robert Paterson, son, 3, born Whitburn Margaret Paterson, daughter, 1, born Kirknewton George WADDELL, brother-in-law, 41, Stone mason, born Whitburn Fanny WADDELL, sister-in-law, 34, Stone mason's wife, born Whitburn I believe that this Peter Paterson was the son of the Robert and Elisabeth Paterson mentioned above. Robert and Elisabeth also had a son named James, who is my husband's great-grandfather. Fourth; - Barton Villa, Hamlet of Northfield, Liberton, Edinburgh Jessie D R HARROWER, 57, Interest dividends, born Thurso George C HARROWER, son, 25, Chartered accountant, born Edinburgh William R HARROWER, son, 23, Insurance clerk, born Edinburgh Elizabeth G Paterson, servant, 20, General servant, born W Graig, Linlithgowshire I think that Elizabeth may be another child of Robert and Elisabeth; I think the G probably stood for Glen, but I can't find W Graig in Linlithgowshire - does anyone have any idea where this might be ? The Elisabeth Paterson I was looking for was born Torphichen, W Lothian. I look forward to hearing from you if you have any connection with the above households. Cheers, Rosalind Paterson. 3. Hello everybody, It's been very quiet, maybe I have been removed from the list because of the last virus attack. Anyway, anyone who opens an attachment that does not know the sender is much too trusting. I don't even open most of the attachments that my sister sends me from her friends. I have a question. In my searching on the web, I ran into some web sites that say , "send us $50+ and you will be a few clicks away from finding all of your ancesters that you are looking for. " Something like that anyway. Do any of your have some good success stories after you wrote the check? If so can you share the web site name? Thanks, Bill California

    1. [PATTERSON] Patterson's not in the USA
    2. Jackie Serna
    3. Does anyone have any information on Patterson's in Ireland around the 1870's. I have a Margaret Patterson daughter of John Patterson (labourer) married in April 1878 in Carrickfergus, County Antrim. Witnesses were John and Ellen Jane Patterson. May have been from County Down or County Antrim area. Margaret may have worked at Castle Dobbs. Jackie
