    1. [PATTERSON] DODD connects PATTERSON--- -stories wanted.
    2. Working on the DODD familys, I encounter many other lineages that seem to interlock to some of the DODD familys-their connections lost in time. Wouldn't it be something to really know how so many familys of the early settlers really did know each other into many generations? I do know that generations carried their lineage in their memories. My mother could recite who was born, died, what, when and where and who moved and when, why and stories that went with the moves. WE have lost much by loosing track of those memories. In searching for DODD children of ashley haywood dodd and lucy ann cave dodd, we have located a family of patterson people who married two children of this couple and their parents played a large part in the raising of one of the grand children...purloined away for some unknown reason and raised in Louisiana, we have searched for this youngster born in 1862 and for his descendants. IN so doing the patterson familys are joined in this search for finding out what did happen to the parents and the reasons that events happened as they did? Remembering that events of the civil war had impact on more than just the soldiers who bore the death of it--it also ate others in its path across time. tHINKING ON THE SUBJECT : about familys who connect or ties before Texas?. One on line friend, writes: I have a WEBB who married a Lipscomb, and a MAYNOR who married a STEPHENS. And Lucinda is name common in more than one WEBB branch. The WEBBs came from Edgecombe/Nash Co. but seem to have had a presence in several NC around those, including Rutherford. AND it appears the WEBBs stopped off in Waxhaw Community, Union Co., SC before hitting Jefferson Co., GA. Moreover, my William Henry WEBB, Matilda Caroline Webb Patterson's brother, went to Newberry, SC after the Civil War....we haven't a clue why. But I suspect some unknown kin relationship. I DO know a wagon train from Edgecombe came to Sandersville, GA in 1797, which I think was Washington Co., GA then, if I remember correctly. Could be the Pattersons, Webbs, Dodds, et al were all in it.?? Other very early sirnames in SC and VA and NC that connect are: PETTY, MASSEY, GRABENER, HEWES, CRISS, GULLETT, SAMPIER, KITE, DODD, BRYANT, LOWERY-LOWRY, MCLEAN, MCKOWN, WILLIAMS, GOODWIN, MOORE, COLLINS, POUNDS, RUNYAN,Turner, CAMPBELL, BROWN, CAVE-CAVES, MORGAN,MARSH, PACK AND JAMES--CARPENTER,CLINE,NARRID, HUGG.... just to name a few of our aux lines. IF any of the members of this DODD mailing list OR PATTERSON LIST OR MILAM CO. TX LIST? know of the wagon trains or lists of members--please advise where that data is found? Our line of DODD people came from VA to SC to NC to alabama and to texas and then spread out through out all texas, okla, ark, louisiana and then points west. Our COLLINS and POUNDS line was from ala to mississippi and then to louisiana and texas by 1854. ASHLEY dodd's FAMILY SETTLED AROUND MILAM CO. TX, Bandera, Bowie, Burleson, Williamson, Falls, Erath, Cass, Harris, Polk and others. The CAVE/ Brown lineage was from Barnsdall district early in rev. days. A strong line of patriots down to today. AS the movie: PATRIOT, so happened in the CAVE?Brown family. (CAVE married into DODD in alabama). Thanks to the list and if anyone has some DODD or PATTERSON ... stories connecting familys?--lets hear them.?..who knows it might be my granny or yours? Your blocked wall --may have my answers on the other side? sincerely, judy hugg grimes, yorba linda ca.

    3. I'm guessing you are hoping to find a source as extensive and organized as well as available online .... unfortunately there really isn't anywhere for one-stop shopping. Here's a couple starters though. For online sources, I did a Google search and found a bunch. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=%22passenger+lists%22 Here's an few examples ... http://home.att.net/~arnielang/shipgide.html (good general guide on researching lists) http://members.aol.com/rprost/passenger.html Genealogy.com also has a whole subscription area devoted to Passenger Lists and Immigration ... http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/internationalsub.html?Welcome=995556942 plus a whole bunch of CDs you can buy. Also try your local libraries genealogy section. I always head straight for "Passenger and Immigration Lists Index; a Guide to Published Arrival Records of Passengers who came to the New World from the 16th to the early 20th Centuries" by William P. Filby. This is a great, on going, project to index passenger lists published in other sources. The National Archives has microfilm of the early passenger lists. Go to http://www.nara.gov/cgi-bin/starfinder/0?path=micfilm.txt&id=mfilm&pass=&OK= OK and search for "passenger lists." Some are indexed. Depending on the port of entry you are seeking, it could be an arduous task! Believe me, I spent a long time reviewing New York lists for only one year. You'll need to go to the Archives or one of the regional centers to view these. The full listing on any of the microfilms will tell you where it is available. The LDS Library also has a lot of records. this is the results of a search for North American immigration documents. http://www.familysearch.com/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?dis play=topicdetails&subject=359347&subject_disp=North_America_-_Emigration_and _immigration&columns=*,180,0 You can order most of these to be sent to you local Family History Center and view them there. Good luck. 3. Judy, You can by the 1880 US census on CDs at http://www.familysearch.org/ and look for the 1880 Census link on the left side of the page. It's actually $49 for the 55 CDs. 20 of the 55 cds is the Index itself. It has been a tremendous help for me in just the short amount of time I've had them. WE are now looking for a marriage in the LA area for james M. patterson and any bride. 2. Wes Patterson
    3. Anne, My name is Wes Patterson, and I recently purchased the entire 1880 US census for $40 on 55 CDs, published by the Mormon Church. Not without error, it is a tremendous resource. I believe I found your James M. Patterson, age 18, in 1880 in Tx. You'll probably need to do some other research to confirm it's the same James M. Patterson, but nonetheless, maybe this will help put you in the right county in 1880. Erath county, Texas, Precinct 8, page 38C of the 1880 census has a FIDCOCK household, where James is a laborer. They are as follows: Census Place: Precinct 8, Erath, Texas Source: FHL Film 1255302 National Archives Film T9-1302 Page 38C Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace Lylee FIDCOCK Self M M W 25 TX Occ: Laborer Fa: MS Mo: MS Ann FIDCOCK Wife F M W 25 TX Occ: Keeping House Fa: TN Mo: GA Pearl FIDCOCK Dau F S W 1 TX Fa: TX Mo: TX Cora FIDCOCK Dau F S W 9M TX Fa: TX Mo: TX J. M. PATTERSON Other M S W 18 TX Occ: Laborer Fa: --- Mo: --- When searching for James you don't find anything that matches, but many of the 1880 census takers just put initials, so this is very likely to be your James M. Patterson. See if you can find any of the surrounding households from this 1880 record in the same area where JM was in Sabine in 1870. He may have travelled with them to Erath county after his grandparents died, perhaps. By the way, Erath county is in central Tx, about 3 counties west of Dallas, and then 1 county south, if that helps. 1. [PATTERSON] HARRISON / PATTERSON
    2. I am beginning to think I may have a more of a HARRISON / PATTERSON connection in my PICKENS - related lines, than has been previously known. I have been doing a lot of work with South Carolina records for the area that is Anderson / Abbeville region, late 1700's early 1800s. The major names involved are PICKENS, PATTERSON, HARRISON, DOWDLE, MCCANN, GRIFFIN, ANDERSON, CALHOUN, EARLE, MIDDLETON, LIDDLE, WILLIS, etc. Desc. of some of these lines went to middle TN (Giles Co and surrounding areas), some of the areas in AL that were mentioned, and some to Georgia. Several of these lines also have connections to families in NC also. If anyone would like to discuss specific families, I would be most interested in trying to put some more of the puzzle together. 3. My husband's gg grandfather was James Harrison Patterson b. 1 Jan. 1837 in Al. The family was found in Limestone Co., Al. It is thought that his father was John Patterson from N.C. He is said to be one of the seven brothers who left N.C. and came to Tn. and Al. We have never known where the Harrison name tied in. I know that there was some of this family in Giles Co., Tn. I have never heard of any connection to Overton Co. James Harrison m. Mary Evans in Limestone Co. The family later moved to Hopkins Co., Tx. Does anyone know of this family or ties to the Harrison family?

    1. [PATTERSON] RE: PATTERSON in Sabine Parish 1870 - 1880 and beyond.
    2. *****James M. Patterson Abducted from TX by Grandparents!**** *************DESTINATION AND FATE UNKNOWN!************* ******DISTRAUGHT MOTHER NEVER SEES HER CHILD AGAIN!***** ***************REWARD FOR INFORMATION***************** According to DODD folklore, the mother took the child to see his grandparents. When she returned to pick him up, they had moved to parts unknown with him, and she never saw him again. Only recently have we discovered his name and his whereabouts in 1870. We still do not know what happened to him. He would have been 18 in 1880 and presumably his grandparents in their 60s and 70s, if they were still alive. We have no death nor burial information for them. Is anyone on this list descended from JAMES M. PATTERSON, born in TX, in Sabine Parish in 1870? In the 1870 Census Plesent W. and Matilda Patterson are shown in Sabine Parish with an 8-yr child. This child is the subject of a massive "missing child" hunt by a fairly large group of researchers from three family names: Patterson, Webb (Matilda's maiden name), and Dodd, the child's mother's maiden name. The reward is our gratitude in solving this 130+ year old mystery! Thank you! Anne Webb Nelson
