I am not sure where to start with this but I think I will start with my gggrandfather in North Carolina. In doing this I will have to refer to information about his wife's family which is as follows: John Hedrick (born 12 June 1766 Rowan County NC) died 22 July 1849 Villanow, Walker Co. Georgia John married Mary Blair 1 March 1792 Augusta Co. Virginia. Children: First two Hedrick daughters were born in Virginia and married circa year of 1813 in Roane Co, Tennessee Some of their children died in Pike County, Mo. Their 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th children born in Rowan Co. North Carolina. 8th, 9th, 10th were born in Roane Co. Tennessee Susanna A Hedrick (11th child) born 1814 in Roane Co, Tennessee,(1850 census) married ROBERT PATTERSON (b. 1810 in NC) (some say SC). (d. in Walker County, GA) Susanna and Robert married in 1831 in Monroe Co, Tennessee. 1840 Census ROBERT PATTERSON in McMinn County, Tennessee (?) 1850 Census shows ROBERT PATTERSON in Walker Co, GA W. Armuchee (373) 1860 Census ROBERT PATTERSON in Walker Co., GA E. Armuchee (748) 1870 Census shows SUSANNA PATTERSON in Walker Co., GA at Frick's Gap (245). Do you have any Pattersons in Hawkins Conty Tennessee around 1800? Jack
It's been a while since I posted my Patterson brick wall. I'm looking for parents of Permelia (also went by Amelia) Patterson. She married Paul C. Gillispie. Her son, Paul, was born in Anderson, SC in 1880. She was not the first wife of Paul C. A family bible states that she had brothers Wade, George, John and a sister possibly named Margie but gives no dates. This is really all I know about her. Does anyone have information on Permelia or any of her named siblings? Sheila Phillips

Sarah Jane Patterson's father was born in North Carolina, her mother in Alabama. She married Solomon Benjamin Holder in Sevier County, Arkansas in 1864. I can't find a Patterson family in AR 1850, 1860 or 1870 census that fits this profile. She named her children Nancy Ada, Ellen Elizabeth, Warren H., Emma, Allison (male), Wiley J., Lily Arminta, and Cora. She was living in 1910, in Yell County, AR with son Allison's family, but I lose her after that. She married again after SBHolder's death, to B.F. Boon. I see a number of Patterson family migrations lately that are NC>AL, as her family seems to be, does anyone have a lead on my Sarah Jane Patterson, born in TN and then went to AR? Thanks! Ami Havens
I have a brick wall with this group. Elizabeth and one older sister not listed-Permelia-married Gober men in Newton County Georgia and moved to the Chattanooga area before the civil war. Elizabeth, Thanks for sharing this with us. What was your gg-gf Robert Patterson's birth and death dates? Do you know which counties he was living in in 1850, 1860, and after? This could have been a son of one of the Buncombe Co., NC Pattersons from the 1810 census perhaps. There were a couple of James Pattersons that went through Buncombe Co., NC and Haywood county also from 1800 through 1820. In particular, there was a group of three Patterson men living close to each other in 1810 Buncombe Co., NC named John, Robert and James Patterson. This 1850 John was NOT the son of the 1810 John, but could have been the son of either James or Robert - they both had sons that would have been around 10 years old in 1810 - COULD have been 10, that is. We don't really know what happened to James or Robert and their families after 1820. I believe there's a good chance they were brothers of the 1810 John. That John settled in Union Co., Ga by 1840. He had a son named Amos Patterson that was born in 1801, who was in Rusk Co., Tx (very close to Anderson Co., Tx) by 1853. Plus, there was a Robert Patterson there by 1852 as well. I'm not sure who the Robert was, but I believe he was either a son of Robert or of James. This John that you found in 1850 could also be a son of either James or Robert of 1810 Buncombe. My mother-in-law is in the hospital and when I see her doctor and get home from there, I will look up what I have and get back to you.
My gggrandfather was Robert Patterson from NC. I wonder if this might be one of the families you mentioned. If so you may want to look at Collin County, Texas as that is where his family eventually located. That county list is listed a little differently because it gets mixed up with Collingsworth County if the address does not include an "n" in the access address. It is as follows for Collin County: COLL-N-L@rootsweb.com . There are several books at the Mckinney, TX library with Patterson family histories in them. ( COLLIN COUNTY, TEXAS FAMILIES) McKinny is the county seat of Collin County and the people are most gracious and kind to help with look ups. Another reason I feel these Pattersons may be the ones you seek is the Georgia connection. Hello Listers, I've recently received a marriage certificate which has turned out not to be for our family after all; it's for the marriage of Margaret PATERSON to Frank SPROTT in Dalziel, Lanarkshire, in 1855. Margaret was the daughter of John PATERSON and Marion PATERSON, formerly AIKEN, and was born in 1834 at Linlithgow, and Frank was the son of William SPROTT and Grizel SPROTT, formerly PHELP, and was born in 1829 at Glassart, Hamilton. Witnesses were Loudjvich JACKSON and Thos THOMSON and John LAMB. If anyone wants the rest of the details, please contact me off list. I found this couple on the 1861 census in Dalziel; details as follows; - District 639: Muir Street, Motherwell Frank SPROTTS, head, 35, Coal Miner Margaret SPROTTS, wife, 27 Marion PATERSON, servant, unmarried, 26, Domestic Servant, born Linlithgow, Linlithgowshire Marion SPROTTS, niece, 1, born Dalziel, Lanarkshire As Marion Paterson was also born in Linlithgow, I think it probable that she was a relation of Margaret Sprotts. Hope this helps someone, Rosalind Paterson.

Many of you have suffered the many queries that I have sent over the past 5 years seeking information about William Patterson and Nancy McCready of Brooke County, WV and Eldersville, PA. The generous responses many of you have sent led to final discovery that has nearly verified the origins of William. The house of William's birth (rcvd from my aunt Martena Kessel) was identified by Eldersville residents as the home of James and John Patterson of Bethel Ridge; later the homestead of Hugh Patterson. As I was fairly sure that John and Jane Patterson had sons Francis and William and since Francis and William are buried at St. John's Graveyard the pieces fell into place. My most recent estimate of this little known family line (compared to the well known Patterson line of Cross Creek and Lancaster) is below. I am now seeking to verify the place of origin of this Patterson line. And I am seeking information that would confirm or deny my guess that this line is from county Donegal; and hence of the line of Pattersons/Paterson who moved from Ayreshire, Scotland to Raphoe Barony when James I granted lands to John and James Cuningham about 1608. 1. JAMES PATTERSON b. abt 1725; prosperous landowner of County Donegal. Note 1: This paternal relationship is deduced from the Armstrong County background of Woodward Patterson Brown of Kittanning, Pennsylvania who is a descendant of David Patterson (some of the specifics in this write up indicate errors in either my assumptions or the write up itself). Note 2: The relationship of Robert and/or Elizabeth to James and John is an assumption based upon the closeness of my great-great grandfather (William, son of John & Jane of Bethel Ridge) to the children of Robert and Elizabeth Patterson. I believe that either Robert or Elizabeth was a sibling of James and John; the other being their cousin. Children of James Patterson: i. ROBERT PATTERSON b. 1749 d. 1829; wife & cousin Elizabeth Patterson b. 1754 d. 1852 ii. JAMES PATTERSON b. 1757 d. 1849 iii. JOHN PATTERSON b. 1762 d.1849 iv. SISTERS in Philadelphia 2. Hello Listers, Does anyone recognise any of the following, from the 1851 census in Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire; - Cambusnethan (district 628), enumerator's book 12 (Morningside). Morningside David PATERSON, head, 24, Coal Miner, b ? Lanarkshire Janet PATERSON, wife, 36, b Leadhall, Lanarkshire Isabella PATERSON, daughter, 4, b Shotts, Lanarkshire Janet PATERSON, daughter, 1 month, b Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire [no address] James PATERSON, head, 23, Coal Miner, born Dalziel, Lanarkshire Mary PATERSON, wife, 22, born Bothwell, Lanarkshire Christina PATERSON, daughter, 1, born Bothwell, Lanarkshire I think that both David and James were sons of William Paterson and his wife Margaret Brownlee, but I can't be sure about this; if anyone can confirm or deny this, I would like to hear from them. Mary's maiden surname was McNeill. Cheers, Rosalind Paterson.
Does anyone recognize this Patterson family from Allegheny County, PA? They lived in Allegheny City which is now part of Pittsburgh. George Fahnline GeorgeFahnline@att.net 1. ISAAC1 PATTERSON was born Abt. 1805 in Pennsylvania. He married SUSANNA UNKNOWN Abt. 1830 in Probably Pennsylvania. She was born Abt. 1810 in Pennsylvania. 1850 Census, Allegheny City, Ward 3, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, Page 125: Dwelling 486 Family 520 Isaac Patterson, age 45, Blacksmith, born Pennsylvania. Susanna Patterson, age 49, born Pennsylvania. William Patterson, age 29, Butcher, born Pennsylvania. Joseph Patterson, age 16, born Pennsylvania. Children of ISAAC PATTERSON and SUSANNA UNKNOWN are: i. WILLIAM2 PATTERSON, b. Abt. 1830. Notes for WILLIAM PATTERSON: 1880 Census, Allegheny City, Allegheny County, PA, page 117C: William Patterson, Other, M, W, Single, age 50, Roustabout, born PA. This William Patterson is the right age to be Isaac Patterson's oldest brother and the occupation probably fits in with the 1850 Census. He is living with a Joseph Harrison and family who is a Butcher. ii. SAMUAL PATTERSON, b. Abt. 1832. 2. iii. ELIZABETH PATTERSON, b. Abt. 1834. 3. iv. JOHN PATTERSON, b. Abt. 1836, Pennsylvania. v. Abt. 1850. d. Bef. 1860. Francis Patterson is listed in the 1850 census, age 5/12, but is not listed in the 1860 census. Probably died before 1860. Generation No. 2 2. ELIZABETH2 PATTERSON (ISAAC1) was born Abt. 1834. She married JOHN PFEIFER Bet. 1850 - 1860. He was born Abt. 1830 in France. 1880 Census, Allegheny, Allegheny County, PA, page 330B: John Pfeifer, Self, M, Marr. W, age 50, Helper to Peddler, born France. Elizabeth Pfeifer, Wife, F, Marr. W, age 48, Keeps House, born Pennsylvania. Margereth Pfeifer, Dau., F, Single, W, age 17, At Home, born Pennsylvania. John Pfeifer, Son, M, Single, W, age 7, Attends School, born Pennsylvania. George Patterson, BroL, M, Single, W, age 43, Tanner, born Pennsylvania. Isaac Patterson's Civil War Pension File #974351, referes to a Sister, Elizabeth Pifer who he had not seen for 20 years. As this John Pfeifer's wife is named Elizabeth and he has a brother-in-law named George Patterson, makes highly probable that this Elizabeth Pfiefer is Isaac Patterson's sister and that George Patterson is Isaac Patterson's brother. In addition both Elizabeth Pfiefer and George Patterson are about the right ages to be the sister and brother of Isaac Patterson. Children of ELIZABETH PATTERSON and JOHN PFEIFER are: i. MARGERETH3 PFEIFER, b. Abt. 1863, Pennsylvania. ii. JOHN PFEIFER, b. Abt. 1873, Pennsylvania. 3. JOHN2 PATTERSON (ISAAC1) was born Abt. 1836 in Pennsylvania. He married CHARLOTTE HASTINGS, daughter of JAMES HASTINGS. She was born Abt. 1838 in Ireland. 1880 Census, Allegheny, Allegheny County, PA, page 164A: John Patterson, Self, M, Marr., W, 44, Butcher, born Pennsylvania. Charlotte Patterson, Wife, F, Marr., W, age 42, Keeping House, born Ireland. Annie Patterson, Daughter, F, Single, W, age 18, At Home, born Pennsylvania. William Patterson, Son, M, Single, W, age 15, At Home, born Pennsylvania. James Hastings, FatherL, M, Widower, W, age 73, Laborer, Prob born Ireland. This John Patterson is the right age to be Isaac Patterson's brother and the fact that he is a butcher and has a son, William Patterson makes highly probable.. Children of JOHN PATTERSON and CHARLOTTE HASTINGS are: i. ANNIE3 PATTERSON, b. Abt. 1862. ii. WILLIAM PATTERSON, b. Abt. 1865. 4. ISAAC2 PATTERSON (ISAAC1) was born 11 May 1841 in Allegheny, PA, and died 04 January 1914 in Sharon, Mercer County, PA.
