    1. [PATTERSON] James Harrison Patterson
    2. Sarah Stevens
    3. My brick wall relates to the family of JAMES HARRISON PATTERSON b. 1 Jan. 1837 in Al. His parents are thought to have been JOHN and MARY PATTERSON. John Patterson is thought to have been b. abt 1792 in S.C. His wife Mary is thought to have been b. abt. 1794 in S.C. I have no other info on them. Siblings of Harrison were named THOMAS, EMILY, MARY, ABIGAIL, and MARTHA PATTERSON. John Patterson possibly had siblings named JAMES, ROBERT, ALEXANDER, ASIA, ARCHIBALD, and BENJAMIN LEVI PATTERSON. I have heard reference to the seven brothers who all moved into the Tn. and Al. area. I have no definite proof that they are all connected other than that Benjamin Levi Patterson had James Harrison Patterson living in his wife Nancy's household on 1850 Census. It is thought that he was the nephew of B.L. Patterson. His parents may have died by 1850. James Harrison Patterson m. MARY ELIZABETH EVANS 14 Oct. 1865 in Limestone Co., Al. The family lived at Good Springs, Al. Eleven children were named BENJAMIN LEVI, SARAH ELIZABETH, WILLIE F., MARY DELLA, ELIZABETH EMMA, ABBIE LEE, ROBERT DEMPSEY, RAYMOND W., GEORGE W., VAN W., and TRUDIE EUDORA PATTERSON. Harrison Patterson moved his family by wagon from Al. to Hopkins Co., Tx. about 1892. Two of the older daughters were married and remained in the Limestone Co., Al. area. Harrison d. 11 Jan.1913 at his home in the Emblem Community, Hopkins Co., Tx. He was buried in the Emblem Cemetery. Any info on this family would be greatly appreciated.

    1. [PATTERSON] #4 of 4 newspaper articles on Suttons - Abraham Lincoln
    2. Here is # 3 of 4 newspaper articles (1st was Obit of Samuel Sutton) I found in my gg grandmother's trunk, Hannah Sutton Ellis. The funny thing about this article is that I have no idea how this Mrs. TC Sutton fits into my family. I also have not found a Abner Hanks being a brother to Nancy Hanks, Abe Lincoln's mother. If anyone can shed some light on this, please let me know. Emporia, Kansas, Tuesday, Feb abt 1828 IS RELATED TO LINCOLN Mrs. T. C. Sutton, 524 Rural, Is Lineal Descendant of Lincoln's Cousin. Mrs. T. C. Sutton, 524 Rural, is proud of the fact that her grandfather, Jeremiah Hanks, was a first cousin of Abraham Lincoln. Mrs. Sutton's great-grandfather, Abner Hanks, and Nancy Hanks, Lincoln's mother, having been brother and sister. And, listening to Mrs. Sutton's stories of her girlhood and married life, it is plainly evident that she inherited a share of the fortitude and courage and endurance and faith of those early forbears. The Jeremiah Hanks branch of the family moved from Virginia to Ohio, instead of to Kentucky, as did the branch which became allied with the Lincoln family. In Muskingum County, Ohio, Sept 13, 1840, Eliza Starkey was born. Her mother died when she was 10 years old, and the little girl became mother and housekeeper for the family of seven children and their father. She never went to school again, but always she has been a voracious reader, and is self-educated - what old-fashioned persons term "well read". Nov, at 88, books and newspapers and magazines are her daily delight. She reads until her eyes tire, then her daughter Miss Emma Sutton, takes up the book and thus they spend many delightful and instructive hours. Eliza Starkey was married April 4, 1861, to T. C. Sutton, in Ohio. In 1864 they moved to Illinois and came to Kansas in 1885. They bought a farm seven miles northeast of Emporia-land which had been a claim preempted by the late Capt. L. T. Heritage. There family was a large one - 10 children, and for a few years a motherless granddaughter and her father were with them, so that every meal 13 members of the family sat down to the table. Mrs. Sutton baked 12 to 16 big loaves of bread every week, with biscuits in between. She used to declare she baked bread by the barrel- and so she did. She kept her bread in a small flour barrel, and her joke was literally true. The Suttons built a substantial house on their farm, with ample barns and other buildings, and made of it one of the most attractive and thrifty appearing farms in their neighborhood. After Mr. Sutton's death, Mrs. Sutton and her daughter, Emma, moved to Emporia. "We brought up 10 children," says Mrs. Sutton, "and partly an eleventh one, and my granddaughter, Linnie, was spanked when necessary, as were my own. They never got a spanking they didn't need, and spankings are good for them. I am proud of all my children, but they were bad at times, as all children are." The Suttons, hard working and always busy, never were too busy to go regularly to church and Sunday school. "And we took the children to Sunday school," says Mrs. Sutton. "We didn't send 'em." Of the 10 sons and daughter Charity, who was Mrs. George Gadbery, died in 1915. The others are Ira, National Military Home, Leavenworth; Grand, editor of the Moline (Kan.) Advance; Lewis, credit man of the Mercantile Company, Salina; Wilbur, a farmer living in the old home neighborhood; Onie Watson and Freedus, Emporia; Lora, Mrs. WR Brown, Erie Colo; Elsie, Mrs. Hugh Cowan, Topeka; and Miss Emma Sutton, Emporia. Mrs. Sutton has 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The Suttons have been members of the Bethel Methodist church during all of their 44 years' residence in Lyon County. - L. M. F.

    3. Great idea! Here's my brick wall John H. Patterson (b.1816 D.C.?, d. 1904) father from Scotland, mother from MD married in Allegany county MD 2-2-1848 to Susan(ah) Garey (1829-1904). He was married to her sister Louisa 12-31-1844. They had 2 children before her death. I suspect his parents were John Patterson and Elizabeth Wire, looking for the connection. I suspect her father was Cornelius Garey. 2. bpfamly
    3. Arthur Patterson (1770-1818 or 1820's) married Catherine Sloan (?-1844). They came from County Down, Ireland in 1812 to NY then spent two years in PA. Next they went to Harrison Co, OH. Their son, Samuel married Jane Davis (1812-1891) on 3/11/1830 in Harrison Co. I don't know where in County Down that they lived nor what ship that they traveled on. I don't know where in NY nor PA. Samuel had brothers and sisters, but I don't know whom. I found Arthur and Samuel in Jefferson Co. on a census. Samuel moved to Hardin Co. and made his home there, as he shows up in the history of Hardin Co. Bobbie Peeler bpfamly@prodigy.net <mailto:bpfamly@prodigy.net>

    3. Hi Everyone -- Myself and serveral of my cousins are stuck with Norvill Patterson. Norvill Patterson was born about 1833ish. We know that he was born in Ohio and sometime around 1840 and 1843, his mother (Sena Patterson) moved him and his siblings to White County, Harrison Twnshp, Arkansas. We obtained this information from the 1850 census records. We are trying to find out where in Ohio Norvill was born, what is his mother's maiden name and who is his father. We have recently received a lead that the father might be a Joseph Patterson who married a Serena Montegomery but we haven't been able to confirm this yet. Thanks for your help. denise __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? LAUNCH - Your Yahoo! Music Experience http://launch.yahoo.com

    2. Searchers of Sutton/Ellis/Patterson/Gard Here is # 3 of 4 newspaper articles (1st was Obit of Samuel Sutton) I found in my gg grandmother's trunk, Hannah Sutton Ellis. This is her brother. I do not know a date or the name of the newspaper for sure, I am assuming that this would be Bethany, Harrison Co., Missouri. I also do not know if he won the election. If anyone has that information, I would love to hear about it. John P. Sutton was the grandson of George and Hannah Gard Sutton, and the son of Samuel Sutton and Mary G Patterson. He married Eliza Jane Reed in 1860 and had five children: Mary I. - b 1864, Lillie M.- b 1866, Samuel - b 1869, Clarence J., Samuel G. b 1868 all Missouri. Vickie in OK JOHN P. SUTTON, for Presiding Judge Was born in Ohio, Nov. 7, 1839, and has resided in Harrison county for 32 years, and is a farmer by occupation. During the war he served in Co. B. 54th Regt. Ohio Vol. Infty. Has been Collector and also Clerk and Assessor of Cypress twp. is a member of the Baptist church. He taught school for Twenty years in Harrison and Daviess counties in succession. During his military life he served a while in Andersonville, Ga. Prison. Mr. Sutton is an uncompromising Republican, and is one among our best citizens and very popular in his own neighborhood and over a large district of country in the county. His qualifications for the position he seeks is of a high order, and if successful he will undoubtedly make a good record. During every political campaign he has always been an active and efficient worker for his party, which, has gained for him many friends in every part of the county; where he is known.
