I looking for information on my grandfather. The following is all the information that I have....any help will be greatly appreciated. I find it hard to believe that the birthdates of the two brothers are correct but that is what was given to me by my grandmother on Robert. Mack's daughter gave me his birthdate. Hello, I just thought I'd check to see if there is anyone else out there researching my Patterson family. My immigrant ancestor was James Patterson, b. c1633, who was a prisoner of Oliver Cromwell and exiled to America in 1652. He married Rebecca Stevenson and settled in Middlesex Co., Mass. Four more generations of Pattersons in my direct line were born in that county, lastly John Patterson, b. 1751. He moved to Monmouth Co., NJ, where, in 1778, he married Phoebe Bowne. Patty, Do you know what happened to any of these children of Robert? Do you know when the John was born, and where? Did any of these leave PA. My John Patterson was born in 1766, probably in SC, but I know many of the Scotch-Irish Presbyterians came from PA through VA & NC into SC b/w 1760 & 1765. My John (b 1766) had sons named Joseph, John, George, Amos and Robert. I also know they were many Roberts, James, Johns and Samuels in the nwestern part of SC in the mid to late 1700s. Thanks. John and Maud had children as follows: Audra (born 1893) Herbert (born 1899) Oscar (born 1902) Homer (born 1905) John Henry (born 1908) Minnie (born 1912) Charlie (born 1913) Mary Alice (born 1915) Rubert Lee (born 1918) Maud reported her birth date on the 1900 census as March 1879, but other she may have been as much as five years older, which would be more consistent with having a six-year-old daughter in 1900. A Thomas Patterson b. 1752 and his brother John Patterson b. 1760 show up in Nottingham Twp., Washington Co., PA in abt 1785 and start farming. John is my gr gr gr gr grandfather. From 1790 on when John married a Mary Caldwell b. 1776 in Greencastle, PA, and they proceeded to raise 13 children, I have the families pretty well traced. Thomas d. 1829 and John d. 1837 and both are buried in the Pigeon Creek Presbyterian Church Cem. in Somerset Twp., Washington Co. PA. The dates I have agree with their head stones. The problem for those of us searching these lines has been to find the place of birth and parents for the brothers. We are stuck with a family myth of an Arthur Patterson coming from N. Ireland to the area of Chambersburg, PA in 1750 and parenting these guys. After considerable checking I feel Arthur probably is not the correct name of the missing parent as I have yet to any such who would come close to being a match. Recently it was suggested to me that the famous Indian Trader -" James Patterson of Connestoga Manor" is the father of a James JR. who went to the Mexico, PA area to land willed to him. This is in Juanita Co. and Mexico, Pa was at one time called "Fort Patterson." I am trying to find the data on James JR. to see if he may in fact have fathered my John. Although I did read the Publication on "James Patterson of Connestoga Manor" sometime back, at that time I was still looking for an Arthur as my missing parent-- so I may have overlooked something. I can't find a source of this publication, (1950) locally.(Tampa, FL area) Is it possible that one of you Pattersons reading this may have access to that publication and could see if there may possibly be sons of James JR. who could be my Thomas & John Patterson as described above? Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated.

I have a listing about the William I just described, and he was possibly the same William that was the son of Robert who came into NJ in 1727/28. Is that the same Robert that you're referring to? The info I have came from a work that was compiled by a Leonardo Andrea in 1947, and reworked slightly in 1955. I look forward to your response. 9-18-98 This James Patterson moved to first Morgan Co., then Muskingum Co., Ohio. He married Clarissa ROSS in Morgan Co. The family appears on the 1850 Muskingum Co., OH census.
