Hi: I have lurked on this list for quite some time while I was doing more active research on my FOX line, so it is high time I post the infor that I have and see if anyone can offer any possible connections. My 3ggrandmother was Lucy W PATTERSON. She was born in NC on 7 Jun 1827. I have her fathers name as Burley PATTERSON and her mother is named ??? FINCH. She died on 16 Jun 1918 She married Isaac JOHNS on 10 Mar 1845. they had at least one child named Sophronia Lucy JOHNS. She was born 10 Jan 1852 in Bradford, Gibson, TN. She died very young in 1876. Any clues? I have been looking for Burley PATTERSON in all the messages that are on this list. Thanks, David Hacking
Hi All, I'm researching William PATTERSON born in 1840 in Elmira, New York and died in 1930. He worked on Lake Erie moved to Wisconsin and worked on the Great Northern Railroad. Sons: Claude Omen PATTERSON, born 1883 in Wisconsin, died or dissapeared in 1924. He worked on the Railroad in Salt Lake, married Rachel ? who remarried and became Rachel EMRY. They lived on Potter Ranch; Morley PATTERSON, born ?, dissapeared 1930-1935, married Edna Stewart(a cousin). Does anyone have these PATTERSONs in their line? Morley PATTERSON was supposed to retrieve a family fortune in New York for Rachel EMRY and was never heard from again. Any information would be helpful. Sincerely, Lauri
Cousins, Can anyone connect the four Patterson household in the 1820 Census of Bedford Co., TN?. They are: James Patterson 200110-22011 James Patterson 210031-02010 Nancy Patterson 311100-31210 Robert Patterson 111201-02200 Nearby is a George Little who's son John married Synthia (also used Saleatha) Patterson beore 1826. Unforntunately, many Bedford Co. records, including early marriage bonds, have been lost. These census returns suggest that the elded James, the Robert, and the probably deceased husband of Nancy listed were likely brothers. Please help. It seems that this grouping of Patterson should fit somewhere in the known lines of this family. Brian Walls Columbia, Maryland
Cheers! I've got a strange Patterson bird for you all! This has been haunting be for about a year. I have a John (or sometimes Jonathan, Jas or Jo) Patterson that appear in the early 1800's near what is now Spencer Co, KY. Later census record has him from SC. Perrin's History of Kentucky 1885 has him from PA, son of William and married to Rebecca LaPhawn near this area (which I haven't been able to confirm). Their children were Archibald, Christopher, James A., Jonathan H., Griffin, Alfred, Resin, and possibly Robert C., Catherine and Hardin. Rebecca Patterson Gray's posting mentioned a Langston family that intermarried with the Patterson family in SC. John's son Archibald named his first son Langston. Coincidence? I've not found any infomation linking this Patterson family to PA or SC. Most of this family including John moved on to Muhlenberg Co, KY in 1854. Any thing sound familiar to anyone? Laura Lamb
I am looking for information on JAMES W. PATTERSON, son of Thomas H. Patterson. James was born in New York ca. 1853. He migrated to Joliet, Illinois with his parents sometime before he married Hattie A. Strickland there on 10/18/1876. His biography in a 1878 history of Will County, Illinois, states that he was a coal trader. James W. and his wife are not buried in either the Strickland or Patterson family plots at the old Oakwood Cemetary in Joliet, although the could be there elsewhere or in an different cemetery in the Joliet or the world for that matter. However, their first child (and only child so far as I am aware), Claire Maria Patterson died in 1878 at 10 mos. and is buried in the Strickland family plot in Joliet. Gray Strickland Tulsa, OK
Hi, Is there anyone out there researching Ishmel and Minnie Smith Patterson from Southern IL. Probably married in the late 1880s. Minnie's parents were John and Mary Barton Smith from Hardin County IL. Patty Dial
Greetings all. The several posts lately regarding John Patterson prompt me to wonder yet again if there is some connection to my Joseph Patterson who appears in SC with a land grant in 1774. The names Joseph and Robert appear in both f amilies and the dates are close enough to cause question. Joseph's land was in Laurens Co. where he died in 1812. He was married at least twice to Pamela Ha ll and Rebecca ?Horne?. There were four children, Betsy thought to have come w ith him to SC as a toddler, Joseph, Jr., Robert, and Nancy. Another recent tid bit lists a John Patterson as a witness to a land transaction in Laurens Co.in 1789 between Solomon Langston and William Copper. The Langstons eventually mar ried into Nancy Patterson's family. Clues anyone? Rebekah Patterson Gray
To all: Sorry for the duplication for those of you who are on more than one of these lists. This link is to a new page opened up on my website dealing with the roots of my PATTERSONS who settled in SC in the late 1700s, Old Buncombe Co and Haywood Co of NC from the 1790s-1820s, and north GA from the 1820s forward. The roots go back to PA at some point. Any help, suggestions, and/or corrections would be welcomed with open arms. Thanks to all who have helped, and I hope this can be of help to many, as time goes on. Thanks again. George PATTERSON (B 1800), his son William Harden PATTERSON (b 1832) were my 3rd and 2nd-g-gfs. They were quite responsible men in their own right, if I may say so. They lived in the north GA area, from which many other men did leave looking for gold. They stayed and reared responsible families.
