Hello everyone, I'm new to the list and am hoping you might be able to help me in researching my husband's line. Does anyone have anything on the lineage of Alexander Whitfield Patterson b 1824 d 1887 in Limestone Co., AL? He married Didiana Adeline Ridgeway in 1848. His mother was Temperance (last name was said to be Whitfield but not confirmed) b 1797 in SC. She settled in Limestone Co. AL with her children between 1820-1823. Her husband (Alexander 's father) may have been William Alexander Patterson, but have not confirmed this either. According to the dates of the children's births and the census records he supposedly died between 1842 & 1850. Any info on this family would be appreciated. Thanks ahead of time. Welcome aboard, Anne and Dean! My Paterson forebears were born in Scotland and I might be able to help you. Years ago I was told that my family and myself were distantly related to your William. Do you have any Paterson names; locations and dates would help. Happy hunting! I sued the "search" machine "Yahoo"and entered "1698 colonization of Isthmus of Panama" then pressed "search". The search yielded two matches for the entry. This search may not be the one you are looking for but the names of the town were so similiar that I am hoping that DARIEN is one spelling for your DAREM. Hope this helps. Elizabeth
I am new to Genealogy especially on the internet, but have decided that a good place to start is with my Paterson line. Family folklaw (and the presence of a portrait) tells me that I am a decendant of William Paterson (1658-1719), who founded the Bank Of England in 1694. He was also responsible for the ill fated Darem scheme which sent 1200 people to colonize the Atlantic side of the Isthmis of Panama, in 1696, many died including his wife and child, and the majority of the survivors including William Paterson returned to Scotland. We know nothing more of the Patersons until James Speirs Paterson (b 1795) married in Aug 1811 Marion Jean Hardy, (Hardie?)(b 20 mar 1794) daughter of James HARDY and Marion LAMB. We know of 5 children - John P. (who had 7 children no details known) -Robert Lamb P. moved to Brooklyn NY -Marion Lamb P. married a Sepburn -Jean Baird P. married David Bell and my ancestor -James Speirs P. b 1825? who married Edwina BARRON, b 5 May 1817 Gorbals Lanark they had 4 children - Alexander P. who married Bella Graham - William Barron P. who married Elizabeth Robinson - James Speirs P. who married matilda and my ancestor -Robert Lamb P. christened 8 July 1855 Glasgow who married (9 Sept 1878 Dunedin New Zealand), Catherine BAILEY (chr 28 mar 1853 Edinburgh) Robert Lamb P. (1855-1932) probably either arrived in Dunedin New Zealand on the "Jura" in 1858 with his parents, and returned to Scotland arriving back in Dunedin on the "Dunedin" in 1876 alone, We have more information of his decendants in New Zealand Thank You to anyone who can help me to find the 'missing links' Anne

My ancestor, Samuel Patterson, was issued 2400 acres on the Duck River in Marshall County TN by Warrant #1818, dated 30 Nov 1784. This land was surveyed by David Wilson - John Wilson and Ebenezer Alexander Chain Carriers. This grant was recorded on 17 Dec 1794. He later sold 800 acres of this 2400 acres "in consideration of 254 Spanish Milled Dollars" to Aaron Wilson on the 18th of July 1798. Witnesses: Zacheus Wilson; Samuel Wilson, Jurat: David Wilson, Reg. It is interesting to note that Spanish Milled dollars were used and circulated freely in the United States until 1857, the year James Buchanan became president. It was considered the most reliable currency. The Spanish Milled dollar was valued at eight reales, known as the "pillar dollar" and the piece of eight. I know the people who live on the Aaron Wilson place and have visited in the old house built in the early 1800s several times. In 1811 Samuel deeded the remainder of the 2400 acre grant to sons, Thomas, William, Alexander, James, Robert and Andrew. Apparently he needed the money from the sale to Aaron Wilson for on 31 Jul 1798 he bought 320 acres on the headwaters of Roundlick Creek. He later bought (13 Dec 1804) 1,000 acres on fork of Roundlick Creek. I imagine that all the above Wilsons were somehow related to David Wilson.

Reply to [email protected] From: [email protected] To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> Subject: {not a subscriber} PATTERSON, 1825-1860, IRL > CAN > Carver Co., MN Date: Sun, 7 Feb 1999 11:17:27 -0800 (PST) While searching for my ancestors I've come across a 3 PATTERSON families in Carver Co, MN through the 1860 Federal census. The 1860 Federal Census covering Florence, Carver Co., MN (Enumerated 11 July, 1860) lists: Robert Patterson age 34, a farmer, born in Ireland Ellen, his wife, age 28, also born in Ireland William, a son, age 7, also born in Ireland Maria, a daughter, age 4, born "Canada West" and Catherine, a daughter, age 2 born in Minnesota This family appears to be buried in St. Bernard's Catholic Church Cemetery, Carver County, Minnesota: Ellea, wife of R. Patterson 1823 - 5 September 1901 Robert Patterson, born in Drumkiern C. Lietrum, Ireland 18 February 1818 - 12 September 1901 Thomas J. Patterson 8 March 1870 - 17 May 1899 (born after the 1860 census) Walter E. Patterson 15 May 1861 - 22 January 1895 (born after teh 1860 census) Most likely the inspcription for Robert Patterson should read "Drumkeeran" (or "Drumkirwan"), County Leitrim, Ireland In the 1860 Federal census I also found: 1860 Federal Census covering Camden, Carver Co., MN (Enumerated 20 July, 1860) lists: James Patterson, age 37, a farmer, born in Ireland Cecilia, his wife, age 34 also born in Ireland Bridget, a daughter, age 12, born in Canada Mary, a daughter age 10 also born in Canada Margaret, a daughter, age 8, also born in Canada Bridget Flood, relationship unknown, age 80, born in Ireland In addition to these two families my own line is: 1 William Patterson b: Abt. 1830 in Ireland . +Mary Fallon b: June 1833 in Ireland m: 1849-1850 in Ireland d: August 23, 1894 in Carver Co., MN, USA ...... 2 Robert Patterson b: Abt. 1851 in Ireland d: Bef. 1938 ...... 2 Ann Patterson b: Abt. 1852 in Ireland d: Aft. 1938 .......... +Fredrick Hanke ...... 2 John Patterson b: Abt. 1854 in Canada d: Bef. 1938 ...... 2 Mary Jane Patterson b: Abt. 1857 in MN d: Bef. 1938 ...... 2 Catherine Patterson b: November 10, 1859 in Waconia, Carver Co., MN, USA d: May 23, 1938 in St. Paul, Ramsey Co., MN, USA .......... +Theodore Hanke b: November 27, 1852 in Westphalia, Germany m: Abt. 1879 in Carver Co., MN, USA d: April 16, 1918 in St. Paul, Ramsey Co., MN ...... *2nd Husband of Catherine Patterson: .......... +Robert McBain b: September 1857 in Canada m: 1892 in MN, USA d: Bef. There is also a Thomas PATTERSON, age 22, living with this family in 1860. I presume Thomas is a brother of William's. I have these 3 seperate famalies, all with male PATTERSON's born between 1825 and 1838, in Ireland, who moved their families to Canada between 1848 and 1854 and then again moved to Carver Co., MN between 1856 and 1860. Can anyone tie these three together?? All of this can not be a coincidence! Thanks in advance! Jim Jim Royer [email protected]

Hello, I'm looking for any info on the family and ancestry of Margaret PATTERSON, b. Abt. 1822. In 1843, she married Leland B. KERFOOT, b. Abt. 1820. I received the following little "poem" from a friend who types this on a 3x5 card then puts her name, relationship, snail-mail address and e-mail address on the back, then laminates it, punches a hole in it and ties it to a single stem artificial flower and puts it on her ancestor's graves when she is visiting cemeteries whether those close by or in different states. That way the next person who might be researching may get in touch with her. I think this is a great idea. Phoebe Dear Ancestor: Your tombstone stands among the rest; Neglected and alone The name and date are chiseled out On polished, marbled stone. It reaches out to all who care It is too late to mourn. You did not know that I exist You died and I was born. Yet each of us are cells of you In flesh, in blood, in bone. Our blood contracts and beats a pulse Entirely not our own. Dear Ancestor, the place you filled So many years ago Spreads out among the ones you left Who would have loved you so. I wonder if you lived and loved, I wonder if you knew That someday I would find this spot, And come to visit you.
